This is our Voltron: Legendary Defender rewrite! This is a current work in progress with 160 chapters, and we do have another rewrite currently ongoing. For our main author, this has been a passion project for over 3 years now. We are mainly using this blog to get it out there, and recruiting betas once we get closer to actually writing.
Our major themes that we will be addressing throughout the series will be identity, choice, teamwork, and the consequences and effects of war from multiple different perspectives. We are not currently on Ao3, but will be when we get to that point of our process.
Our major author is Sol (@packcoventhing), who uses it/he pronouns. He loves character interactions, development, and personality showcases. He’s also a digital artist, and if there are any digital images in this that are not cited, they likely come from his art app! He’s 19 years old and absolutely insane about Doctor Who and Voltron (obviously. why else would we be here).
Our co-author is Lief (@sfhppjmc), who uses they/it pronouns. They like evolutions of relationships, culture, influences of anything around them, and adding in representation of all kinds. They are 18 years old and loves Doctor Who, recently recruited to hell. They only recently finished watching VLD after being dragged.
We are contactable through tumblr if you have any questions.
The major list of things we are changing/including are listed below:
We are changing most of the plot
The endgame ships are Klance, Hunay, Shalluratt, and side Ezor x Zethrid
(The primary author, Sol, is gay. He also has a handful of fixtional women he'd date if they were real. Shiro can date alien princess and his friend all he wants.)
Lotor has been overhauled and has been given a redemption arc
Keith and Acxa are twins
Pidge will be genderfluid
Keith and Lance and Romelle are trans
Technology will become (hopefully) more based in actual theoretical physics
Altean magic system will be overhauled and given an actual structure (gasp!)
The lions CAN and WILL turn into actual lions
The relationships between the main team will become more developed and more important
Shiro's PTSD and disability will be handled in a more respectful and realistic manner
Allura gets the character development the show pretended she had
Lotor's redemption arc DOES NOT involve a romance arc
Adam's existence and death will make an impact on Shiro and Keith
We will meet and interact with Galra citizens
Voltron will not be created by Alfor
The story takes place over a longer length of time for the paladins
General pacing fixes
& more!

<3 <3 <3 This one’s an easy one because Shalluratt has already been a long-standing OT3 for me. Mutual love and support squad for when their pasts weigh a little too heavy and Matt loves teasing the hell out of his too-serious partners to get them to lighten up (and they definitely get their revenge when he least expects it)
Lotor may have split the Law of Cycles in two, but Allura still has memories telling her the world is not supposed to be this way.
So, this is an old fic that was originally meant for Day Seven: Magic/Miracles of @allurashipweek all the way back in 2017. I stumbled upon it in my Google Docs, and I decided to finish it. Ships are one-sided Lotura as well as pre-romantic Shallurat. Contains very mild body horror.

“We have a new transfer student,” Mr. Iverson said. He turned his head towards the door. “You can come in.”
As he turned to the board to write down the student's name, a girl with pale hair tied up in a bun with a blue ribbon walked in. Her blue eyes scanned the room.
Blue? Why blue?
“Hi,” the girl said. “My name is Allura Brooks, and I transferred here from Arus. I lived there for ten years, but my father’s job transferred us back to Altea.”
You've never been to Arus; you've lived here your whole life.
Allura blinked. Ever since arriving back in Altea, she'd been getting feelings that something about the city was wrong. However, the feelings of wrongness hadn't been so strong outside the classroom. “I, um, I hope you will accept me as your classmate!” She shuffled to her seat, face burning.
At the end of the first class, a boy with long white hair kept in a ponytail by a pink ribbon approached her. He wore a triangle-shaped earring on his right ear. “Allura, right? I'm Lotor. You didn't look that great earlier. Do you want me to take you to the nurse?”
You already know the -
Lotor softly snapped his fingers at his side.
“Yes, please,” Allura said. She got up out of her seat and followed him.
With every step she took, the feelings of wrongness increased.
Why is he leading you?
Why are you a transfer student?
Why you?
Why?
“I don't belong here,” Allura said, gazing out the large windows of Altea Middle School. As Lotor turned to look at her, her long hair escaped its blue ribbon.
“I should be somewhere else,” she said as her eyes turned pink. Starlight spiralled out of her and into the surrounding area. “But where?”
Lotor ran to her, pulling the ribbon out of his hair. “Allura, what do you think is more important? Your own happiness or that of everyone else?”
Allura blinked; her eyes returned to blue as the hallway returned to normal. “If we're talking about everyone everyone, then everyone else, of course.”
Lotor handed her the ribbon. “If you really think that, then we will always be enemies.” He turned and began to walk away. “Keep the ribbon. It suits you better.”
”There's been a lot of transfer students lately,” a boy from the class next door said to Shiro, who sat a few seats away from Allura. She was pretty sure his name was Matt.
He doesn't go to school.
Allura shook her head slightly as she ate another bite of the food her stepdad had prepared for her. She loved Coran, but she wouldn't be surprised if his cooking was messing with her head.
“A guy transferred to my sister's class the other day,” Matt continued.
His entire family is dead.
Allura stood up, grabbed her lunch, and walked outside of the classroom. Maybe fresh air would help clear her head.
“Quiznak, do you think she heard me?” Matt asked. Shiro pinched his brow with his right hand.
He lost it years ago in an accident.
That was crazy. Impossible. Allura’s hands tightened into fists. What the quiznak was going on?
“Um, Allura?” Matt called out before school the next day. She turned to look at him. “I’m sorry for gossiping about you.”
He never would have apologized before. Shiro is a good influence on him.
“Would you be apologizing if I hadn't overheard your conversation? That being said, we’re even because I was eavesdropping on you,” she replied.
Matt looked surprised for a second, but then smiled. “Glad you think that way. I'm Matt. You want to sit with Shiro and I?”
It had been a week since Allura had transferred - returned? - to Altea. Since then, she had developed fast friendships with Shiro and Matt. She wondered if she had met either of them prior to moving to Arus, because her relationship with the two of them felt like she was picking up the pieces right where she had left them, or at least had met them in a dream.
Lotor felt very similar, but a sense of foreboding came with him. She twisted the pink ribbon in her fingers. Across the street from the trio, a group of odd-looking goth girls threw tomatoes at a tortured-looking cat. Others beat it with baseball bats, chanting in German.
Allura got up from the bench, fists clenched.
“Whoa, what’s wrong?” Matt asked. Allura turned to her friends.
“What's wrong? Can't you see what those girls are doing to that poor thing?” Her hands accidentally brushed along theirs.
“What girls,” Shiro started, but then his eyes widened. “Matt, Princess, we need to run.”
“Princess?” Matt and Allura said in unison. As Lotor started walking towards them, feathers floating around him and an odd looking sword in his hand, Shiro transformed. His bangs turned from black to white, a scar formed across his nose, and he wore black, purple, and white armor with a cape fastened by a glowing gem pendant. His right arm disappeared into light, only for a shining silver-and-black floating prosthetic to form in its place.
“Kurobos! Come forth!” Shiro said, pointing at the dog surrounding the river. A giant black lion dressed like a Roman gladiator flew out on a pair of wings that looked suspiciously like human hands.
Witch.
You must destroy it with your own two -
You don't have that -
Shiro's here but his witch is too.
How?
You need to stop -
You sent it to protect -
Witches only destroy.
Allura barely struggled when Shiro dragged her away from Lotor and the witch, too drowned out by the cacophony of thoughts.
“Shiro, I’d ask you if you're crazy, but either all of this is real or Allura has LSD or something on her,” Matt said, still slightly out of breath after their mad dash from Lotor and Shiro’s hurried explanation of how the world as they knew it was the creation of a demon.
“Excuse me?” Allura glared at the shorter boy.
“It wasn't until you started waving your hands around that we could see those goth girls. Not to mention that there's no way any of this could be real! A goddess torn in two and fallen to Earth, and to top it off me wanting people to believe that, believe that Dad…” Matt shook his head. “No, it can’t be true.”
“Well, it’s not like I…” Allura trailed off.
It’s true.
“I don’t understand what’s going on any more than you do,” Allura said instead. “But I feel like there’s something wrong with Altea. I… I’m pretty sure I’m not a goddess, though, despite what Shiro says.”
Shiro gave them both a sad smile. “I mean, not anymore, and you weren’t originally. Lotor made sure of that.”
“But seriously? Shiro, you know my dad, you know he wouldn’t do that!” Matt shouted. The revelation that his father had killed everyone in the Holt family but Matt was too horrifying to think of.
Shiro stopped smiling, pressing his lips together. “Look, the old world wasn’t a happy one, but this world is wrong. Lotor’s going to come after us, and at best we can hope he’ll just erase our memories.”
“And at worst?” Matt asked.
“Probably nothing good,” Shiro replied, rubbing at where his natural arm ended.
“If I take back the power that Lotor supposedly took from me,” Allura mused, “could I remake the world again, but this time make it both happy and not mess with the laws of reality?”
Shiro shrugged, and Matt smiled at her. It was rather assuring for Allura.
“Okay, so how do we fight Lotor?” Matt said, turning his gaze from Allura to Shiro.
“Well, first we should probably find Kyubey,” Shiro said, “and hope he hasn’t made any contracts.”
“Wait, any wish?” Pidge asked. “Like, you could make me taller? Or make our classmates stop being mean to me? Or -”
“Or you could bring my dad back?” Keith interjected.
Kyubey swished his tail. “Of course! All you’ll have to do is make a contract with me and become magical paladins!”
Another update because Klance and its writers fill my heart.

Once a homeless teenager, Keith is now a young, successful businessman who owns the most popular new gym in the state. Lance is a surrogate, single dad to his young siblings, and is doing his best to make ends meet. Neither has the time or desire to fall in love. Doesn’t stop it from happening, unfortunately.

“Surprisingly, no one wants to go out with the 23 year old dude with three kids under four and no time or money to treat them to fancy dates.”
“I do.”
My Notes: Ok, so this is a really good fic. Keith’s social awkwardness was just really relatable, and the kids were just. Very kid-like? Yeah. In most fics, kids are just shoved in and they’re all perfect and stuff, but this fic got it right. Kids can be cute, but also have tantrums and pull your hair and shit. Also, them caring for each other, even though Keith messes up so much, was great.

Pidgeot: Do you wanna go to Europe with me, my brother, Shiro, Allura, and Shiro’s brother?
There are so many times in life when things don't live up to your expectations. This trip? So much better than expected. Sights will be seen, love will be found, friends will be made. And they'll have a little fun while they're at it. But really, what's a better way to meet your soulmate than being stuck with them while traveling the world?
My Notes: This is another group chat fic, and at times it can get kinda crack-y, but in this fic, the humor is done really well. The Klance plot was just perfect, and I think that the fake-dating thing is so something they would do. Also, Shiro, Matt, and Allura’s relationship was poly goals.

Keith and Lance wake up married. In the future.
He lays there a moment, processing the faint throbbing in his head, a strange bitter taste like lemons in his mouth. When he opens his eyes, the room spins wildly into a kaleidoscope of colors, so he closes them again, breathing in and out until he feels less like he might throw up. He suddenly registers a warm weight over his waist, and lifts his head to see a brown arm thrown over him. It looks startlingly familiar, but different, bigger than he remembers, more toned.
Keith turns all the way around and comes face to face with Lance sleepily blinking his own eyes open.
My Notes: Holy shit guys. I read this in 1 1/2 hours and it is just perfect. The writing style is brilliant, everyone is totally in character, and I fell on the floor laughing many times. The use of time travel was really interesting and the ending was everything. I really highly recommend this.

"Yeah I... I didn't know I had a sister," said Keith. "Until she died last month. And now I... now I'm, um, I-I'm like a single parent to my nieces."
He took a huge breath to steady himself, waaay to worked up to be on live radio.
"And I don't know what the hell I'm doing."

In which Keith is the guy who suddenly finds himself a single-parent to his two nieces, and Lance is the charming radio host who might be the only voice of reason in this mess
My Notes: I couldn’t put my laptop down while reading this. The emotions were super raw and beautifully explained, the adashi was god tier, and Allura was just perfect (as usual). The oc’s (Judy and Yumi) were really fun, and Judy was really well layed out and three dimensional. There were parts that made me want to genuinly cry, but the pacing and comedic timing made sure that I was always laughing. And the epilogue was so fluffy and cheesy and heartfelt. I loved this fic, a lot.

Keith is Altea High’s star athlete. And Lance, a wily reporter for the school newspaper, is crushing hard. The only problem? They’ve never actually met before. So when Lance decides to broadcast his long-hidden feelings in an explicitly romantic exposé, he ends up accidentally sparking a school-wide epidemic. Suddenly the entire student body is in on the drama, but are words truly enough to win over the school’s enigmatic heartthrob? [High school AU. Klance.]
My Notes: As I’m writing this, only up to chapter 5 is posted, but this fic is really good so far! The plot is really interesting and I love that Lance is ditzy, but still really intelligent. A lot of people skip over that part of his personality :/. I think withholding Keith’s backstory was a good decision and the talks between Keith and Lance are intriguing. One of my favorite parts of this fic is that a lot of people have made beautiful fanart that goes perfectly with the great story that Read All About It is.

“You’re such an ass.”
Lance stares at him, dumbfounded. “Huh?”
“You’re not allowed to say that unless I can say it back,” Keith snaps.
“What—” Lance blinks. Then he realizes just what Keith is talking about and he falters, letting out a long, slow breath. “Oh,” he says softly.
“Yeah,” Keith responds sharply, but his voice wavers and he huffs. “Oh.”
My Notes: I’ve been waiting for a cop au since Voltron began, and this is all I ever could’ve hoped for! Badass Lance + protective Keith is something I definitely need more of in my life, and I loved how Lance kept his snark and sass even in the tensest situations. This was wonderful (and I need more!).
( hostage’s author @thespacenico is also on Tumblr with a lot more beautiful writing. Go check her out!)
When I wrote this I noticed I didn't put a lot of interaction between just Shiro and Matt but I felt like I couldn't fit it into the story so I hope the flashback stuff works. Aslo, this was had been my inspiration for Allura’s first dress and this was my idea of what Allura’s wedding dress would look like. I’m sorry, but fireflypath dresses look amazing and totally fit what I sometimes imagine Allura in.
Royalty
Matt slowly woke up at the feeling of someone shaking him awake. It must be Prince Shiro. He would open his eyes to see his kind prince, his lord, standing over him. Then his prince would press a kiss against his forehead, reminding him that if the King found him sleeping on the job, it would be bad. He blinked open his eyes and stared up at the Princess of Altea.
Wait.
“Your majesty!” Matt shot up, standing in front of the princess and bowed to her. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to fall asleep in your library. You must think I’m so lazy.”
Delicate fingers touched his chin making him raise his head to look at the princess. She looked stunning in her lavender dress, looking like an elven princess, her white hair making her look other worldly.
“You’re perfectly alright. Your Prince told me he allowed you to come in here so I know I can trust you to keep this place in prefect order.” Matt felt so stiff as he felt the princess brush her finger under his eye. “I can see why you fell asleep though. Other than this being the perfect hide away spot, you have such dark circles under your eyes. You’ve been working hard.”
“Oh well, with the wedding coming up.” Matt said.
“Still no reason why you shouldn’t take care of yourself. I’m meeting Shiro here until it’s time for dinner. You can go rest and I’ll send Lance to come get you before we head to dinner.”
“Oh, no I couldn’t.”
Allura gave him a look telling him not to argue, “I insist. Go on.”
Deciding not to tempt fate again, he left the library and went back to the Prince’s quarters. Soon, his prince would be living with the Princess. They were getting married and while it should be a happy time, things were going to be different.
Matt would deny it to everyone that he had feelings for his prince. His father worked in the castle with the records keeper and his sister surprisingly got a job with the blacksmith which left him helping around the house with his mother. Then his father got sick and it kept him bedridden making Matt go out and look for work. The records keeper had offered Matt his father’s job but on his way to his first day, he found Prince Takashi Shirogane trying to sneak out of the castle. It led him to getting caught and in a fit of not knowing what to even do with his son, Matt was given the job of being a glorified babysitter by the king. Matt couldn’t complain when he saw the pay he brought home. It didn’t take very long to understand why Shiro would try sneaking out of the castle. The pressure his father put on him was intense. He had to be the perfect prince and while many of the kingdom citizens agreed that the prince was perfect, his father never saw that.
“It’s because of my younger brother.” Shiro said.
Matt knew the story. The younger twin brother of the Prince had died saving his older brother when they had been kidnapped during a hunting session.
“He says if I were truly perfect, Ryou wouldn’t have had to save me.” Shiro said with a sad smile on his face.
It was then Matt decided he’d do whatever possible to keep a smile, a true happy smile, on the prince’s face. He hadn’t expected with all the time they spent together that feelings would develop. It was like a strange twist a fate the time he realised this, the same group that had kidnapped the kid princes tried doing the same with him and Shiro. This time, Shiro fought against them, more worried about Matt’s life than his own.
“I didn’t want to lose you.” Shiro said when Matt asked when they had returned to the castle, bruised and a bit beaten but still very much alive. That’s when Shiro first pressed his lips against Matt’s forehead. It was downhill from there. Matt had fallen and he made no move to get himself out.
Then it was announced that Shiro would marry Princess Allura. The prince would live in Altea as the two kingdoms joined since the princess’ own was larger. When he heard this, Shiro asked him if he’d consider leaving his family and coming with him to continue on as his servant. Logic told him he should have said no to get away from the feelings, but the urge to always keep him happy made him say yes.
Then he met the princess. Princess Allura was enthralling to look at. White hair from birth, there had been rumours that she was a demon in disguise but if she was a demon, then he’d gladly fall under her spell. Just know at the library wasn’t the only time the interacted. Her father wanted her and Shiro to get along before they married so many excursions and dates happened. Allura never treated him like a servant, not even her own personal one Lance, who spent quiet a lot of time not paying attention to Allura in favour of the captain of the guard’s son.
“Lance has liked Keith since he came into my service. My father won’t allow him to date anyone while I was unwed in order for him not to lose focus of helping me, but I think he’s counting down the days more than I am.” Allura had explained once to both him and Shiro when Lance took off to go chat up the Captain’s son. Most royals wouldn’t allow their servants to go running off to go and flirt, not how often Lance did it. Allura never complained, instead asking Lance about Keith whenever she could. She cared.
Next thing he knew, he realised he had fallen for the princess as well.
Matt wasn’t sure how this even happened or how he was going to deal with this. All he knew was that come next week, things were going to be much harder. But the idea of staying near them and seeing them happy, that made it worth it. He didn’t even go to his attached room to rest, he just collapsed on Shiro’s bed and was asleep before he knew it. He had a dream that Shiro came into the room and pressed a kiss to his cheek, pulling the covers over him. He didn’t remember pulling the covers over him when he went to sleep though.
________
“I’m supposed to bring these sheets to the Princess’ room for the first night together but Keith approached me. Please, can you do this for me?” Lance begged.
Matt looked at the white sheets Lance had in his hand. The sounds of the wedding party leaked into the hidden hallway they stood in.
“I thought that the Princess didn’t have her…you know. Apparently, it broke during a horse riding accident?”
“Well, actually she does. She and your Prince discovered that not that long ago.”
Wait, his lord, Prince Shiro actually took Princess Allura’s maidenhood? He felt slightly jealous, but he beat that down. Of course Shiro would have her maidenhood. They were married, it wasn’t like there was a chance he could be there. With them. Between them. Under them.
Matt quickly shook his head. No, not thinking about that now!
“So what do they plan to do with these?” Matt asked.
“Replace them with ones they actually stained. Since our kingdom isn’t really into the whole, watch as your newly wed couple has their first night, the bride has to be seen given the white sheets, they have to see Allura with them.”
“Can’t you give them to her before you leave?”
“No, the person has to go with the couple to lay the sheets down before leaving the couple. Matt, please! I’ve been waiting to get a chance to court Keith since he first arrived here but I couldn’t because I’m Allura’s personal servant and the king didn’t want me distracted. Please do this.”
Matt sighed and took the sheets. “You two had better be engaged in a few weeks, a month at least.”
Lance squealed in delight, pulling Matt into a big hug. “Thank you! I owe you.”
“You really do. Go.” He ordered, ready to get this over. He was sure that the less time he spent around the prince and princess during the celebration, the easier it would be to ignore the feelings he felt for the royals but now hearing the extra stuff he had to do with them, he could see this wasn’t going to be easy.
He entered the hall again, moving around the celebrating guests to reach where he could see his prince and the princess dancing. They both looked amazing. The pale blue of the princess dress complimented the dark robes of his prince. The smiles they shared with each other made his heart clench. He wouldn’t be part of that and he had to accept it. When the two stopped moving, he watched Shiro press a kiss to Allura’s hand, seeing Allura blush.
In order to distract himself from his heart clenching anymore, he approached the princess with the sheets in hand. When Allura accepted them, the room exploded in cheers, a few explicit comments from the more drunk guests. Allura took him by the arm and pulled him closer so she could whisper into his ear.
“I don’t know if Lance remembered to light candles in my room before he disappeared with Keith. Can you go and check? I’ll explain to others you’re checking to make sure everything is ready.”
Matt nodded and quickly left the hall, taking a few deep breaths. To have the princess so close to him, the sweet smells from her long bath for her wedding, it was doing things to him.
“Gods how is a man meant to move on when I’m surrounded like this?” he asked himself, trying to calm his heart.
Why was this so hard to forget his feelings? Anyone who looked at Allura and Shiro could tell the genuinely liked each other. He couldn’t try and force himself into that. When was he going to learn?
He quickly went to the princess’ quarters and opened the door. Candles sat on ledges and on stands but unlit. Given the size of the princess’ room there was a fair number of candles, so Matt grabbed the lighting stick and got started. He was happy when the wicks decided to actually cooperate with him and take the flame, so by the time the princess came in, he was almost done. Strangely, his prince hadn’t followed her.
“Where’s the Prince?”
“He had to send a letter to his father to let him know the wedding went well. He forgot to have it written before so he rushed off to get it done. As I’m sure Lance told you, it’s not exactly necessary for us have a proper first night together.”
Matt felt his face get hot. “Yes, he told me. There we go, all done.” He said, quickly changing the subject as he blew out the flame.
“Thank you, Matt. I know you must have been on your feet all day.”
“It’s no problem your majesty. You and the Prince looked happy. It makes it worth it.”
The blue-purple eyes looked softly at Matt. “Shiro has told me so much about you and how you’ve been a guiding light when dealing with his father.”
“Oh, I really wouldn’t say that.”
“I disagree. I feel like it’s only been recently he’s been able to feel as relaxed around me as he is around you. I know I feel very comfortable with you.”
“Oh well. I’m glad you feel that way.”
Matt let his eyes slid away from the princess but they moved back to her when she took his face in her hands. From just over her shoulder, he saw Shiro entering.
“Being around you is easy and one of the best things to happen, other than meeting Shiro. I hope you can never doubt how much it means to me to have you here.”
Unable to say anything to the emotion filled words, he was left stunned when Allura pulled him down to press her lips against his.
Oh. This was nice. Really nice. He didn’t have much experience with kisses but he knew this was an amazing one. He almost wished he had the guts to plant one on Shiro
Shiro. Who had just married Princess Allura. Who he was kissing!
Matt pulled away, his hand covering his mouth, his eyes on Shiro. Who was smiling at him. Why was he smiling at him? He should be furious.
“Matt I can see you panicking over there. It’s alright.” Shiro said, walking around his wife to gently take Matt by the shoulders.
“How can it be alright?”
“Matt, as smart as you are, I’m surprised you never figured it out. We’re both very fond of you. I loved for a long time. When we were attacked by the same men that had killed my brother, I knew I couldn’t let you fall to the same fate. It made me realise how much you meant to me.”
They were both fond of him? Him? why? How?
“Matt, when I was told I would marry Shiro, I didn’t know what to think but it was thanks to you and your kind words I knew I could be happy with him. Of course as I spent time with you as well, I started having feelings for you as well. Many of our conversations involved you. Wanting you to stay with us. Unfortunately, before we could explain all of this to you, I got a bit over eager. I’m sorry I scared you.” The princess apologized.
Matt couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He wanted to not believe it, but he saw the truth in Shiro’s eyes. He saw the affection in Allura’s. Gods, how had he been so blind? So sure he could never have a chance, he was going to ignore his feelings for the two people who loved him.
“Why don’t you sit down?” Allura suggested, taking Matt’s hand and squeezing it. “We have a lot to talk about.”
