One of Amazon’s smallest and most popular products has a surprisingly large footprint
Over the past month, I have tried to uncover the hidden life cycle of this simple AmazonBasics battery. Amazon is fiercely secretive about its corporate footprint and masks its operations through a discreet network of outsourcing, making its supply chain hard to unravel. Its AA battery is no different. The product is indeed made in Indonesia, but not by Amazon, I learned. The company buys the batteries from a supplier and reskins them as its own, much like Trader Joe’s and its eponymous food brand. Amazon has never voluntarily divulged the sources of AmazonBasics items, but it confirmed OneZero’s reporting on where its AA batteries come from.
Though I discovered where the batteries were made, I was unable to locate the source of their materials, for example. The difficulty in understanding the supply chain of even a simple component shows how Amazon’s operations are deliberately designed to be a black box. This secrecy allows the commercial titan to be ruthlessly competitive, delivering cheaper items faster than rival stores. But it also makes it harder for consumers who wonder whether their purchases are ethically or sustainably sourced to even begin finding answers. Beyond obscuring why merchandise might be defective — or explosive, in my case — it hinders those of us who just want to know: Where does it all begin?

NEW CHAIR FINALLY HERE! It feels like sitting on a leather-lined cloud, Durotan approves!
I have decided to take the ultimate 2018 prep challenge by Mariana and get more sorted for the new year. After joining the studygram community I have realised that new year is not just about partying and waking up the whole night and see the transition from one year to another but it has so much more to it. New year is about reviewing your previous year, weighing the goods and bads of the year, preparing yourself for the next year so that it becomes more meaningful to us. Planning doesn't mean resolutions and getting obsessed with unrealistic targets which we are never gonna complete and then feel guilty about it during the start of the new year and the worst part is forgetting about it after some days. Then comes a year for which we are unprepared and then forget enjoying it. So I decided to give up old ways and try to sort my life out and this challenge by @marianavieirayt struck me and now I am in it 😊😊😊😊🎉🎉 #stydygram #indianstudygram #studyblr #indianstudyblr #planning #bulletjournal #2018 #2018ultimateprepchallenge #studyinspiration #studymotivation #studyspo #studyinspo #inspiration #life #amazonbasics #mujipen #fabercastellindia #brushlettering
AmazonBasics DSLR and Laptop Backpack Review
by Louie
As my collection of camera equipment grew, I needed something to store and transfer it all. After browsing on Amazon, I went with the AmazonBasics DSLR and Laptop Backpack due to the rave reviews it had and I figured that for the price I wouldn’t be losing much if it was a bad buy.
Fortunately for me, the bag was more than just a good deal, it was a great overall purchase.
The Exterior:
The bag itself is very unassuming with very little fanfare. There are two external pockets on the side of the bag which I use for a spare battery for my DJI Mavic Pro and a 10,000 mAH portable battery to charge small electronic devices like tablets and phones. On the side of the bag there are locking straps to attach a tripod. While this is a nifty idea, it’s rather clunky to carry around a tripod in that manner.
Front Compartment:
The front compartment of the bag has numerous pockets to house smaller items like chargers and other miscellaneous cables, pens or pencils, small notebooks for field notes, a cell phone, and much more.
The Main Compartment:
Everyone is going to have different camera equipment with them depending on their needs, so often times a one-size-fits-all bag is not ideal for everyone. Fortunately, the main compartment of this backpack is not only extremely spacious but customizable to suit all needs.
The padded dividers can be moved around at will as they attach to the sides of the bag and to each other with velcro. This allows you to swap out gear as needed while keeping everything else snugly fit so as to keep them protected from rattling around too much. A couple of straps are also included to help add an extra layer of protection however it would be nice if they included a few more.
Below is a an example of my personal set up in the main compartment of this bag:
Nikon D5300 w/ 18mm-50mm lens
Nikon 70mm-300mm lens
DJI Mavic Pro
DJI Mavic Pro controller
Rode Microphone
GoPro Hero 5 in super suit and GoPro chest mount
Behind the main compartment is a small zipper where you can fit a 17 inch laptop.
Wearability:
With so much equipment it’s important to be able to carry it around comfortably; this is not a problem with this backpack.
The bag features thick, wide, heavily padded shoulder straps to ensure that your shoulders don’t get sore no matter how long you have to wear it. Additionally two sets of straps, one across the chest and one across the waist, help to disperse the weight to relieve pressure from your lower back.
The pack also comes with a fitted waterproof cover that fits snugly over your bag to keep your valuable electronics dry in case of unexpected rain.
Conclusion:
At the time of writing this post, this backpack is being sold on Amazon for $32 which is simply an incredible deal. Similar bags to this one range anywhere from $60 - $120 on the same website.
Despite it’s price the bag does not feel cheap at all and feels like it’s made of high quality materials. After a few months of use, the bag shows no sign of wear.
