AHS: 1984 ⇢ Episode 2 | Mr. Jingles

Always with these quick sessions. I think I am so burned out from reading from July.
I read a few chapters and got to part three. I didn’t start Part Three, but from what I could see on the next page, it looks like I will finally get back to Obinze’s perspective.
These chapters focused on Ifemelu’s time with Curt. Curt is wealthy and even though she didn’t ask him to, he ended up paying for a lot of things for her. He bought her textbooks and her groceries, so she could save money for more than just rent and could even start sending it back to her family. Her father got a job again. I think a lot of the focus on these chapters were about what being with Curt could do for Ifemelu. She wasn’t struggling financially; she ended up traveling constantly with him, and she became happier. She started doing better in school and could bring her grades back up. He even got her a job at a public relations firm. This job interview led her to relax her hair because natural hair isn’t hireable. So she did that and then her hair fell out so she cut it all off and embraced the natural hair lifestyle, which is mentioned at the beginning of the book, so it is so nice to see how she got to that mindset.
I think cracks are forming in her relationship with Curt. She found emails from him to another girl and she feels cheated on. I think she is also sometimes annoyed about how much he always wants to fit in and even sometimes gets upset with herself about all the things she enjoys by being with him.
Aunty Uju has finally had enough of Bartholomew and is leaving to go rent a condo, so it just feels like everyone is becoming happier.
At the end of Part Two, Ifemelu runs into Kayode, a friend of her and Obinze's from school. He lives around her now and mentioned how Obinze nows lives in London. Just having Obinze mentioned to her seems to panic her, and she runs off from this meeting.
