Should I write a thesis about shipping on Seinen/Shounen anime?🤔
*note: I will/might NOT continue this thesis since I'm not a Psychology major student, but a Journalism student. (But I've been yearning to write one)
Contemporary thesis title: Sailing Romance Along Strong Tides: A Hostile Shipping Phenomenon on Shounen and Seinen Animes in the Twenty-first century.
Abstract:
Shounen anime is defined as the genre aimed for teenage boys or in literal translation, "young boys' comic (Aoki, 2015), while Seinen is a genre for young adults mangas targeted to adult men from ages 20s to 50s. OTP or One True Pairing is known for all the fans for pairing characters romantically in their fandom (Urban Dictionary, 2004). The skyrocketing popularity of these genres are being outnumbered by the amount of pairings being shipped by the fandom. This qualitative study will use Miller's Evolutionary Theory (2006) with his arguments on Psychology of Human Mate Choice. The researcher/s will conduct a survey to 1000 respondents who are able to speak and understand English worldwide and are fans of the selected finished animes in this study: Bleach, Naruto and Tokyo Ghoul, respectively. All of these animes have some of the characters being canonized by their mangakas, and further look on this study will reveal the respondents' mixed emotions on the ending as well as with their relationship improvement of the each character in a pairing.
Keywords: OTP, shipping, anime, manga, Shounen, Seinen, fandom, hostile shipping
Note: If you want to conduct/ if there's a study about pairing characters within a fiction, I would love to read about it!
