you know, i was going through the fanart tag for like, fanfics i've written, and i'm just an extremely lucky person and very humbled, and you all are so amazing, even though i know many folks aren't on this tumblr anymore from back then
(all the people here now, you all are amazing too, but this is a nostalgia vibes post and not a right now vibes post, but know i feel lucky and humbled because of you as well)
anyway, i hope everyone's doing as well as possible.
i'm really grateful for fandom and the people in fandom and the people who were once in fandom who moved onto others things but still gave their time to it once. and i'm glad to still be able to enjoy it.
The stark contrast between the messages of In Flanders Fields and Dulce Et Decorum Est... how one poem urges the reader to take up the torch of the men who have died and carry on the fight, while the other actively dissuades the reader from war...
“Take up our quarrel with the foe:/To you from failing hands we throw/The torch; be yours to hold it high./If ye break faith with us who die/We will not sleep, though poppies grow/In Flanders fields”
versus
“If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood/Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,/Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud/Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues—/My friend, you would not tell with such high zest/To children ardent for some desperate glory,/The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est/Pro patria mori.”
Just. The change in tone throughout the war. Both of these were written during WWI; IFF in 1915, and DEDE in 1917-1918. Neither poem makes light of loss, but Flanders Fields describes the surroundings of the battles rather than the death and destruction of the soldiers themselves, while Dulce doesn’t bother pulling punches and describes in great detail what happens to soldiers in the trenches. Flanders Fields still had the spirit of the fight, urging new soldiers to take up the torch and continue the work of the dead. By contrast, Dulce downright rejects the spirit of war in the face of the horrors that are brought by war.
For translation, “Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori” means something to the effect of “It is sweet and just to die for one’s country”.
Reading these poems rly puts existentialism in a new light man. Also one cannot read DEDE and leave without feeling at least a little horrified.
so i remember when i was little i was scared of ghosts, but now, if i saw one, i would be like
ayooo it's a fucking ghost what's up !?
and i'm not sure what that says about my mental health .
wait what's up w nick kroll and his parents/dad
Nick Kroll’s father’s company was deeply involved in enabling Harvey Weinstein’s sexual violence, harassing the victims and silencing anyone who was involved in the investigation. There were two firms involved, the first called Kroll and then when Jules Kroll left Kroll he formed K2. K2 was deeply involved with the smearing of Ambra Guiterrez after Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulted her, including hiring people to basically make shit up about her sexual history.
Now obviously none of that is Nick Kroll’s fault. How he deals with the huge damage his father has done to women in his industry, both personally and professionally. is up to him. If he wanted to talk about it directly that’d interesting. But I don’t think he should bring up his father in cute little anecdotes about getting engaged on talk shows.
wakes up in cold sweat: what if the reason that patton replied to “how do you feel” with “I am the walrus” was that he was actually feeling really sad or something and he already then didn’t wanna admit that he had negative feelings so he just did what patton did best while sad; smile and crack jokes
I have literally only one regret in life (aside from not appreciating some good times I've had, enough) and it's being a fuckin dick to my friend and ex.
They were a great companion and I treated them like a douchebag and it's been like 9 years and I still think about it.
Jira, or HerrJira , I've been trying to search for you on the internet however I could but to no awail. I wish I could tell you that I'm so sorry for what I've done, not to make myself feel better, but because I haven't done it back when I should have and you deserve some closure. I hope you're alive and doing okay.
