okay i know that a lot of people have headcannons for what happens on the journey back to Erid, and that a lot of them involve Grace coming close to starving, but here’s the thing.
grace still has the coma slurry. yeah it’s nasty, but it’s nutritionally balanced and he can survive on it. he’s also stuck in a (relatively) tiny ship with one of the best engineers. NGtube grace.
he has rocky make him an NGtube (or the med bay has some) and a whole pump system. he is able to get his nutrients and yeah, he probably misses the feeling of chewing and eating food, but he has his nutrients. he probably keeps being tube fed when they reach Erid, at least for a bit, as erid’s scientists try to synthesize food.
while sinners obviously is about much more than vampires, I wanted to talk about the use of them and how vampires seems to work within the world for fun
My major wonder on how it works is abilities. Is the strength of a vampire determined by age, how many have been turned by that vampire, or something else?
Remmick we can see can fly to some extent, has long nails, and red eyes. Something none of the others vampires seem to posses. Do vampires eye colors change based on age? If they're the leader of the hive mind? Do all vampires make hive minds? I mean the people Remmick turned when they bite others, the new vampires are still linked back to Remmick instead of the vampire who actually bit them.
Remmicks eyes are red, while all the others appear to be yellow, with the exception of stacks which seem to be a blue(?). So I'm not sure how the eye color thing works and what determines the color. Perhaps it's just random.
Also the vampires can conceal their monsterous form as we see all of them can do.
The hive mind doesn't seem to entirely control them, as shown with Stack and Mary mourning Annie and trying to save her. Yet Stack pulls Mary back in order to follow Remmick. So I think its safe to say Remmick has a very very heavy influence over all of them and their thoughts. Possibly to the point of telepathy. Just not absolute control.
Remmick takes the longest to die from the the sun at the end, while it as just as deadly to him, he seems to have some tolerance. Would explain why he didn't immediately disintegrate and burn when the sun came up as the Choctaw were chasing him. Only smoking.
I also wanna note that wee see him drop into the frame as if he fell. So it makes me believe he may have flew a bit in order to cover ground.
I also am curious as to how Remmicks death would affect the hive mind had more lived after his death aside from Stack and Mary. It wouldn't have killed them as seen with Stack and Mary. Do they immediately become free from the hive? Do they feel an emptiness? Is a new vampire the leader of the hive? If they were to bite others would it still be a hive? Start a new one?
Overall the impression I get is that remmicks power most likely comes with age and possibly the amount of people as he's turned. I doubt the juke join patrons are the first and only people he turned in his years of living. Or attacked.
I wonder also if Remmick could attack someone to feed but without turning them, it seems possible maybe like with delta slim, as he's consumed but I don't think we see him as vampire after.
They also suffer from pretty common weaknesses with the vampire mythos and tropes, garlic, invitation in, sunlight, and stakes through the heart. I will say I haven't ever seen silver be a weakness of vampires, I always saw that more with werewolves.
Typically i see holy water with vampires in the media I've seen. Although we don't see any use of that in the film to know if it's affective in this world. The mojo bag Smoke has however does repell Stack. My theory with that is the effectiveness of religious items and practices on vampires varies depending on religion, item in question, and the vampire themselves.
