I’ve been arguing with two people on Twitter on whether an unborn human is a “child” or not. They equate “child” to mean “person.” I give them definitions for child and offspring. They ignore and just tell me it’s not a child until they’re born or reached “gestational term.” People on Twitter are just so bad at arguing and logical thinking. I think I’ll just stick with Tumblr.

*small disclaimer since I know things are a little wild/pressure cookery atm: this is by no means a call or rallying cry or whatever to go after people that don’t agree with me or anything like that, this is just how I feel. We’re all looking at the same thing from different vantage points and there’s going to be things that don’t line up or even clash. It’s all good. I saw something essentially saying that it’s [unhinged? Too much? A sign someone needs to touch grass] if someone decides they’re done with the show if the pairing doesn’t happen in canon, and honestly? *tired shrug* I get that no one is owed anything from fiction, but I think you’re allowed to be frustrated when valid tropes and narrative structures don’t pay off, especially when there aren’t many places to turn to for the kinds of stories someone still in the proverbial margins might be looking for. As long as you don’t go around attacking the real life people acting/writing out/reasonably enjoying this fiction, it’s cool to be bothered and make an exit. I see something I don’t like here? I mute it and move on, no harm no foul. I’m giving myself and strangers space to feel how we feel and not catch hell for it. Fiction is supposed to be enjoyable, and by all means if you don’t enjoy something feel free to unpack that and work it out, but in the meantime you can also wash your hands of something, even if it’s just temporary. Life is too short and this is too minor to choose this kind of misery for the sake of being someone else’s definition of “getting it.”

I will also say, q*eerb*iting (yeah, I’m partially censoring it because I’m always kind of nervous and tetchy bringing up a phrase that’s been very loaded for a long time and incorrectly used in the worst of instances) doesn’t go away just because a show already has some good representation. I don’t have the energy or the credentials to go on at length about how, for better or for worse and in spite of its continued censorship/marginalization, wlw representation has typically come easier to major network productions than mlm representation, especially when the actors are conventionally handsome male leads; I also don’t want to get into the lack of queer men being allowed to show the same amount of physical intimacy as wlw and straight couples on said show, but that’s there too.

and finally, yeah, as a queer Black woman, I am happy for the representation I’ve got and am getting more recently in this instance, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to see a queer relationship get the same treatment as all the straight couples (who started as friends or coworkers or rivals) that I’ve seen get after multiple seasons of speculation and hope.

You’re allowed to want more or better, you’re allowed to get frustrated, just make sure you don’t hurt anyone (including yourself).

I read that tgd actually cost an additional $70-80 million to make so conservatively tgd cost Netflix $190 million & ppl are mad netflix didnt spend MORE money to promote it. I'm glad more articles are being written about the failure on the production side of things instead of letting morons on the internet decide its because "netflix hates poc".

The Melt Down^TM has been ridiculous. Endless posts straight up saying you don’t get to talk about POC rep ever again if you didn’t watch TGD as if one show is the end all be all for what I, a Queer Latina, should care about or that they’ll never watch Netflix again because it’s obviously racist and homophobic when Netflix has one of the best rep in any respect out there. 

People are totally blinded by their incomprehensible allegiance for this one shitty show that they can’t see facts. Netflix didn’t make this decision alone. Baz had a part in pulling the plug on this. He stepped away to do other things and without Baz’s name on this mess how was Netflix going to even pretend to justify a show with that absurd of a price tag when it was destroyed by the critics at every turn and to make matters worse wasn’t being watched by the audiences. It wasn’t being watched not because people are racist, but because the show was objectively Not Good. Are there racist people? Of course. Was racism responsible for this show failing? The show being awful was responsible for this show failing. 

They really keep trying to come for ST and 13RW when:

Both those together are almost guaranteed to cost only A FRACTION of what TGD did to produce.

Both those shows have had mass audience appeal. 

They also claim it’s racist for Netflix to even be considering a second season of 13RW when the last thing you can say about that show is that it doesn’t have diversity. Sure, they’re all atrocious actors but even that doesn’t eliminate the fact that you have asians, latinos, african americans, and biracial actors in leading roles. You also have a proudly open Gay Latino character who doesn’t fall in any of the typical gay stereotypes. While I agree that a second season of that show is about as necessary as sunscreen in an igloo, you can’t say there is racism involved behind the potential renewal. Or do those POC actors matter less than the ones on TGD? There are what 5-6 leads on TGD? There’s more than 5-6 strong POC characters on 13RW. Why is one rep worthy of praise while the other one gets dismissed as if it doesn’t exist? Their argument fails the moment you start looking at it too hard. 

Cancelling TGD was the only logical decision business wise. A corporation is not at all entitled to keep a product on the air if it’s not being profitable. There’s no grand conspiracy behind that logic. It’s just numbers.
