How did you pick your Rook’s name?
Lowkey, part of it was I knew she was going romance Neve and I figured, why not go with something fire-themed to complement our ice mage? Fire and ice babyyyy - it's basic, but classic! And then I remembered a ye olde Skyrim character I had named Ember, so I went with that 😁
Is your Rook older or younger than you, or a similar age?
Similar age! I've always imagined Ember to be about 30 in Veilguard. So, I'm a wee bit older than her now (a fresh 32!) but we started the same age lol
Any physical traits you share with Rook?
Hmm, well we both have dark brown wavy hair (though Ember's princess hair is much longer, and I could not rock those bangs). Plus, brown eyes and brown skin (never mind my "winter color" right now lmao. i'm sure many of my mixed and tan-skinned peeps here know the struggle 😂). And I think our noses are pretty close?
Also, I was thrilled to be able to give Ember broad shoulders and a small chest in the character creator lol. I'm not anywhere near as buff as Ember, but our frame is similar!
Any personality traits you share with Rook?
Optimistic. Playfully competitive. Adventurous. Good-humored. And pretty damn determined when something matters to us.
On a less fun note, I decided to give her a souped up version of my own struggles with feeling like I need to be high-achieving and useful to others to stick around lmao so there's that. Quick to help others, struggle to ask for help ourselves. Ya know how it is. We are working through it togetherrr (or rather, Ember has been a helpful proxy).
Any personal abilities/mannerism/habits/hobbies you passed onto Rook?
I mean, we both have ADHD and are gay... soooo fidgeting, walking fast, and not sitting in chairs properly? 😂
Otherwise, we both think swords and martial arts/combat sports are badass. We're pretty invested in keeping up with current events and politics because our country be crazy... And, tank top supremacy! (ignore how Ember always has sleeves in game - i just haven't learned how to mod yet! this girl would absolutely be showing off those guns every chance she got lol)
Where do you and Rook differ the most?
Backstory/history. I had a pretty stereotypical "suburban American" upbringing. Ember had a... much rougher go of things. Not much overlap there.
Also, she actually knows how to fight lmao. I did martial arts as a teen and then more recently kickboxing/boxing (like, the classes. against a heavy bag or a trainer with the mitts). I've even taken the odd archery and fencing lesson when clubs near me had deals on classes. So, I know how to throw a punch and the absolute basics of those weapons - but I haven't actually fought anyone for realsies 😂
What trait/ability does Rook have that you wish you did?
Her crazy athleticism / muscles. Her confidence and how she's less of a people-pleaser. Also, her perfect eyesight *cries in glasses/contact lenses*
In a situation where you existed in Thedas, would your Rook be friends with you? Or alternatively, if your Rook was your roommate, could you live with them?
Oh man, I think Ember and I would get up to so much trouble as friends / roommates 😂 It'd be such a fun time.
Also Ember please be my gym buddy and teach me your wayssss.
If you could give one piece of advice to your Rook, what would you say?
GIRL, take time to rest and take care of yourself. Just because you can keep going doesn't mean you need to push until you're runnin' on empty. You're gonna burnout. Ask for help and lean on your friends when you're struggling. You're worth more than what you can do for other people.
(... if this also sounds like pointed advice for me, well, mind yo business lol 💀)
