The concept of Mike Wheeler being super pissy and jealous of Robin after Will starts spending a lot of time with her and thinking Will has a crush on her because he’s the most oblivious self destructive person on the planet
Spoilers. Ambulance bay. He’s looking at her mouth. Life altering 0.8 seconds ascending the astral plane. What if it’s fake. What if it’s ai. What if this isn’t in the finale. But it looks real. I replayed Ni no Kuni Wrath of the White Witch recently and wanted to figure out how many times Oliver sleeps and use that to figure out how long the game is for them. If I've missed any sleeps or mentions of staying in a town for a bit please let me know. If we go strictly off what is spelled out for us than Oliver would be horrifically sleep deprived but after exaplining the horrors he could technically have endured I'll go over what timeline is more reasonable.
First of all, we start in the morning in Oliver's world. He goes to Leila's shop, talks to Phil, eats breakfast and then that night sneaks out to meet Phil. Then his mum dies and Leila says he spends three days in his room. He frees Drippy, goes outside at night and then casts gateway. When they arrive in the outher world, its day. I have lots of thoughts about the implications of this and whether their times are sycned but we'll get back to that later. So far 4 days.
The next time Oliver sleeps is when they go to the cats cradle to wait for his outfit to get adjusted. So that means assuming they didn't sleep in the woods, they went to the ding dong dell gate, then the woods, then came back and then went to the hootique all in one day. Sounds reasonable right? Things dont stay that way for long.
The next time we see Oliver sleep is at the campfire outside the temple of trials. That would mean he found the red herring, talked to King Tom, went to his world to find Timmy, went through ding dong well, saved Tom, went through Golden Grove, met the sprite, fought the guarian, made it to Al Mamoon, talked to rashaad, went back to his world, talked to Myrtle, fought Rusty's nightmare, got Myrtle out the house, went back to talk to Esther and Rashaad, set off to the temple of trials and then finally slept. If we want to go only with the sleeps that were explixitcly shown than that would be an insanely long day. That would take our Directly Shown Sleeps (DSS) count to 5. If we want to be reasonable and speculate where it would make sense for Oliver to have gotten some rest, he could've slept again at the Ding Dong Dell cat's cradle before setting of for Golden Grove. He could've slept imedaitely when he got to Al Mamoon and then that makes more sense. That would bump our Reasonable Specualtion (RS) count to 7.
The next time we know for sure Oliver sleeps is after the Shadar fight on the boat because he gest knocked out. Whilst Esther and Oliver had planned on going to the Al Mamoon cat's cradle to sleep, they decided not to because they realised the Cowlipha's soulmate was Leila. This would mean for DSS that Oliver beat the the temple of trials, sorted Old Smoky out, got to Castaway Cove, confronted Swaine, fought Al-Khemie, talked to Sinbadh, went back to Al Mamoon, taled to the guards, went to Oliver's world to discover that Leila's obsessed with cheese, made and then delivered cheese to the Cowlipha, talked to all the shop keepers, gave the Cowlipha restraint, went back to Castaway Cove, fought Swaine's nightmare, set off to Hamelin, fight Shadar and then FINALLY Oliver gets knocked out and can have a rest. That brings our DSS count to 6 but for the RS count I'll add a sleep when they first get to castaway cove and after they got back from Oliver's world. I would add one before they set off but they probably would've asumed they could sleep on board and Oliver's got a world to save so I think they might've just gone. That brings RS to 10.
The Fairyground is super easy for me because Sinadh says the repairs for the ship will take a week so whilst its only explicitly shown that Oliver sleeps once there, because we know Sinbadh said it would take a week and he never says that repairs were ahead of schedule that they must've spent an actual week there. Sinbadh also sends them off to go look for food when they first get there and says he hadnt heard from them just before they're about to leave so they ghosted him for a week to get reborn and watch comedy shows... oops. This adds 7 days to both counts so now DSS is 13 and RS is 17.
When they get sent to the past, Drippy and Oliver take a rest in that abandoned house on Tombstone Trail. Its unclear if they slept or not but I'll not count it for the DSS bc no one else sleeps therefore a day likely hasn't passed and thats what I'm counting the sleeps for. Their shenanigans before they get to the past could reasonably take up a day and then the their trip with Gascon and Marcasain could take up another one so I'll say they slept at an inn before breaking into the palace because we also have to account for them travelling on the boat. After the Emperor dies, we jump to "several days later" which is frustratingly vague. Based off of Marcansain's reaction to them leaving (showing he got very attatched), Swaine saying he held them up on their journey for a while and the fact that I doubt the others would've wanted to leave Marcasain so abruptly after he just lost all that's left of his family in one night, I'll assume they stayed a week in the past. Here's where things get intersting though. From anyone else's perspective who didn't also go to the past, it doesn't seem like any time passed at all. So now I introduce my asterisk. To both counts I'll not add the seven days they spent in the past but I'll add the asterisk to acknowledge for Oliver more time passed. DSS is still 13* and now RS is 18*.
The final mention of sleeps before Oliver is forcibly knocked out by that Heart bitch in the Miasma Marshes is when Professor Tabitha in Yule says they need to wait till tommorow to ask permission from the village elders to enter the Glittering Grotto. For RS I'll say that meeting Kublai, helping Tengri, fighting Denny's nightmare and going to that island to learn the location of the stones takes a whole day. I'd say they could complete the Vault of Tears, fight the ghostly gallion and arrive at Yule in one very long exhausting day. I feel like all of the Glittering Grotto would also take a day so I'll add one there too. Talking to Marcasain and that ghost wouldn't take that long and I doubt fighting Kublai's nightmare would either so I'll count that as another day. I'll say going through the Miasma Marshes and fighting the heart bitch took a day and then when Oliver awoke from his coma, they went straight to Shadar's castle, fought their way through and defeated Shadar all in one day. You may be asking how they'd do all of that and to that I say, we know they have a shit ton of coffee and I doubt Oliver wanted to wait even one more second to kick Shadar's ass. Besides going through the marshes again wouldn't take too long because they already know the way to the castle so really its just fight the heart guy that I refuse to look up the name of, go back through the marshes, fight through the castle and then kill Shadar. Because when they leave his castle it's midday and when Oliver wakes up its that sunsetty Perdida sky, it might actually make more sense if they slept after fighting hearty mc-heartenson and then set off the next morning. Okay sorry for rambling. DSS is 14* and RS is 24*.
Oops just remebered that Oliver was knocked out for days.
Like I mentioned earlier, there is no canonical sleeping after Oliver gets knocked out. Drippy asks how many days since Ollie passed out and Esther says she's lost count. Curse this vagueness! Alas, we must work with it so I'll guess that Oliver was out for 6 days. DSS* is 20* and RS is 30*.
There's no mention of sleep during the White Witch arc. So DSS stays 20* but for the RS I'll say that saving each of the kingdoms took one day each, gathering their forces to the Iron Wyvern took another day and then going through the Ivory Tower and fighting the White Witch took another day so that's 5 more days. The RS is 35*.
So if we want to be silly but canoncial Oliver saved the world twice in one month and if we want to be slightly less silly he did that in a month and a half. Oliver truly is the pure hearted one because if I were him, I would be taking way more breaks.
Now that I've established how long the games took place, I want to talk about what I suspect seperates time passing from ome world to the other. The first time Oliver casts gateway it's night in his world but day in the other one. Every other time he goes between world's they're both day though. You could argue meta explanations but I want something that makes sense in universe and also, something that could explain how so much changed from the first game to the second whilst only 60 years passed on Earth. I suspect days pass faster in Ni No Kuni but people age at the same rate. Basically, if you were to stand outside both worlds and observe them, people would age the same as their soulmate however, the ones in Ni No Kuni would experience shorter days but they wouldn't feel shorter to them. This would explain (1) how soulmates age, (2) why no one's noticed Oliver disappearing for at least a month, (3) why no child protective services have come to get Oliver because he doesn't have a legal guardian anymore and (4) how so much could change in Ni No Kuni whilst only 60 years have passed for Earth. For their birthdays, I guess they wouldn't be annual but more like every ten years or something? I don't know what the ratio of time would be between worlds but I think this would explain a lot.
Also if we go with DSS being true, it would mean that Oliver actually could easily do all that stuff in one day because to him it felt like 9 hours or something. His party would need to be awake for the events we see but traveling could be where the others sleep whilst Oliver just casts levitate, ties rope to them and pulls them behind him like a bunch of balloons. Was this whole post just because the image of Swaine, Esther and Drippy getting pulled through the Miasma Marshes peacefully sleeping as balloons whilst Oliver trudges through pools of poison to the boss arena was hilarious to me? To be honest that was like 80% of my motivation but I've also wanted to work it out for a long time anyways. I also eventually want to write a post explaining how the fuck Ni No Kuni 1 geographically becomes Ni No Kuni 2 and explaining possible ramifications and history because these games have a grip on me like nothing else.
I really really want to write a fanfic about Light experiencing grief for L and having no idea what to make of it.
Like. that’s never happened for him before. Let alone for the guy he’s trying been trying to kill and despises (because he totally does despise him. Nope no semi-positive attachment here.) Like, L dies and he WINS. He’s WINNING. But he keeps feeling this weird sudden heavy feeling every time he’s not doing anything for to long and he keeps storing stuff in the “to talk to L about” then remembering he can’t. Like. What the fuck
Like anxiety attack style of panic. What is happening. Why does he feel like this
