their first kiss happened in their dorm late at night when Neil was gushing about acting and he was super happy and they were both really in the moment, and Todd just kissed him interrupting his talking, they were both kind of surprised and Neil gave an awkward laugh and said smiling “why did you do that?” And then Todd said “I don’t know” and then they kissed again, that time more passionate, and then they cuddled to sleep <3

Keating knew they liked each other, it was clear there was something more between them

if Neil can’t sleep, Todd recites poetry and it always helps

One time when Todd was talking about poetry, Neil said to him “you’re really passionate, you know that? I know you don’t always show it but I really like that about you”

For Christmas, Neil gave Todd a Walt Whitman book and in it he wrote “To my favourite poet” and Todd’s Christmas present to Neil was a book about the history of theatre and in it he wrote “To my puck”

In case you wanted another reason on why Neil is sub-textually gay, in the scene after the play when mr perry argues with Neil and Neil says “I’ve got to tell you what I feel” and mr perry says “is it more of this acting business?” and Neil is defeated and says “nothing”, it’s painfully obvious that mr perry has a suspicion that Neil is gay because he says that line “is it more of this acting business?” that insinuates this with the use of the word “it”. He has an inkling of what “it” is and Neil feels intimidated and exposed because of that, he knows that there’s more to what he’s feeling than just acting, he knows what “it” is and he can’t tell anyone. He knows he can’t answer mr perry’s question because it’s just too hard to get the words out and he knows it will make everything even worse in the already brutal situation he’s facing.

I know how he feels in terms of feeling something and only saying the more “acceptable” side of the story and keeping the less “acceptable” side of the story hidden and wanting to take it to the grave because it’s so stressful to face. Acting is everything to him. Acting and Todd and Keating awakened so many things in his mind and he knew what he wanted to live for.

Changes I would have made to make dead poets society three hours long

1. More Meeks and Pitts dancing and listening to music on their radio

2. Todd and Charlie having more conversations and their friendship developing more despite their differences

3. Neil and Todd kiss around the 2 and a half hours into the movie

4. Charlie and Ginny kiss

5. More in depth look into Charlie’s struggles

6. Neil’s suicide is an attempt and we see his recovery

7. The poets spend Christmas together <3

8. Meeks and Pitts get along well with Todd

9. More Neil and Todd pining (there was lots of pining in the original movie but more especially so it builds up to the kiss)

10. Charlie hosts a sleepover with all the poets at his house in the Christmas break

11. Jeffrey Anderson appears at some point 👀

12. Todd reads in the cave more times and Neil is there to witness it when he comes back to welton when he’s recovered from his attempt

13. Todd being more confident towards the end of the movie

14. Movie ends on graduation day

15. Charlie takes Todd under his wing while Neil’s absent from welton recovering

16. Knox isn’t a creep to Chris
