It may be surprising for some that Hekate, a pagan Goddess, is in Chaldean Oracles connected with angels - but that is the fact. Angels actually appeared also in paganism.

The Greek word "angelos" means "messenger" and that was basically the angels' function in the Chaldean Oracles - messengers between humans and Divine. This mediatory role was also one of the functions of Hekate, who is in the Oracles depicted as the Source/Mother of angels and their ruler. One of Hekate's epithets also happens to be Angelos. Let us take the following karmic instance. Someone is taken hold of in the very highest degree by the impulses of Anthroposophy. He is taken hold of in heart and mind, in soul and spirit. In such a case something will necessarily happen, which, expressed in words, sounds very strange indeed; and yet it is necessary. In such a case the Angel of the man must learn something. This is a thing of untold significance. The destiny of anthroposophists—the destiny that works itself out between anthroposophists and non-anthroposophists—casts its waves even into the worlds of the Angeloi. It leads to a parting of the Spirits, even in the world of the Angeloi. The Angel who accompanies the anthroposophist to his next incarnations learns to find his way still more deeply into the spiritual kingdoms than he could do before, while the Angel who belongs to the other man—to the one who cannot enter—descends. It is in the destiny of the Angeloi that we first perceive how this great separation is taking place. To this, my dear friends, I would now direct your hearts. Take a thought for instance—something that lives in a human mind. Initially thoughts exist in our conscious mind, but not only these. Spirits belonging to the next higher hierarchy, Angeloi or Angels, also have that thought. But whereas we have a single thought, the whole of our thought world is a thought of the Angels. . . You can see that when you advance in higher vision you need to develop a different feeling for perception of the higher worlds than you do in the world of ordinary physical reality. There you need to think, but also to be thought, and to know you are being thought. It is not exactly easy to characterize our inner response to higher perceptions accurately, for we do not yet have the human words for it. [At the first level of higher vision] you only have a general awareness that you are thinking, but you observe yourself in the conscious awareness of the spirits of the next hierarchy. You let the Angels think your thoughts. You must know that you are not governing your own thoughts in your conscious mind. You must feel the conscious awareness of Angels welling and moving within you. This will give you insight into the progressive impulses of evolution, for instance the truth about the Christ impulse, which continues to be active even today. The Angels are able to think those impulses; we human beings are able to think and characterize them if our attitude to our thoughts is one where we give them over to the Angels, letting them think in us. This is achieved by long training, as described in Knowledge of Higher Worlds. A moment comes when the words, ‘Your soul no longer thinks; it is a thought which the Angels are thinking’ becomes meaningful, something you can feel. When this becomes true individual experience, you inwardly enter into the thoughts of the general Christ truths or other thoughts concerning the wise guidance of Earth evolution.
