It's cool. I don't need to be invited to things. I'd probably just mess the event up anyway. It's cool. No big deal, dude. It's not like I wish people would see how hard I've been trying or something. It's fine. It's fine.
It's fine...
Thinking about God!Liu Kang waking up before the sun, groggy and half awake, and walking into the kitchen making two small serving of breakfast and two small pots of tea—a more bitter and earthy blend for Kung Lao and a local tea that carries a more delicate and floral flavor to it for himself—setting everything down, and waiting for Kung Lao to walk down the hall to eat. He slept later than him, but not too much that they couldn’t share a nice breakfast before their duties.
But then his mind catches up to him.
His Kung Lao is worlds away, ruling his own timeline. The Kung Lao in this world doesn’t like this tea blend, and prefers a larger breakfast than this. This Kung Lao eats with Raiden and the other champions. This Kung Lao sees him as no more than a mentor. This Kung Lao isn’t his brother, his friend, nor a fellow champion.
He is a god, and keeper of time. He isn’t who he used to be, and he doesn’t have his brother beside him. He eats alone, staring at his brothers meal. He wonders if his brother does this too, or does he eat with the champions too?
How deep is your love?
Is it like the ocean?
What devotion, are you?
thinking about how smitty was injured while macklin and the sharks win against the wild on the day mack got announced as an olympic player and how smitty wasn't part of the most iconic celly of the year (imo) aka stars v sharks (1/10/26) ☹️
Hmm...
You think Pelops told Hippodamia "I wish i have lost that race. My head on a spike would have been less painful than having married you" while craddling Chrysippus dead body?
a what if….?
I’M FEELING ANGSTY AND I STILL HAVE FEELS
‼️ALSO MAJOR SPOILERS‼️ based on screenshots
don’t think about Miguel who’s bitter but endures the hardships with his heart closed off. Until now
He’s endured the loss through his family and his past failures weighing heavy on his mind, soul, heart
resigned to accept a lonely fate, there’s another Earth version of you and of all chances, you work within the society alongside him and the others
But he’s seen you before….or at least other versions of you, and he knows first-hand how it personally feels to let you down, to have failed you and he was helpless to save you
don’t think about how he so desperately wants to get close to you, it’s written all over his face. Jessica sees it, Hobie does; Peter B, Lyla, Pav, even Miles and Gwen see how he is around you.
The few times he’s let the mask fall around you, it’s a constant push-and-pull. You know his story, his failures, and Miguel knows he’s nowhere being the easiest to talk to or get along with, but you stay. And holding you in his arms as his lips touch you feels like a life he had not long ago
after the showdown with Miles, he’s back to his old ways and he feels you slipping away. It hurts, it tears, and sometimes he reminds himself he can never fully have you,
You go off with Peter B and Gwen and the rest of them, going against everything of your love, but you know it’s the right thing that has to be done
and most importantly, don’t think about Miguel tracking you down once he’s figured it out and the worst argument ensues until he breaks completely
“I’M NOT STRONG ENOUGH, I CAN’T LOSE YOU AGAIN —- I- i can’t lose you…I-I’m not strong enough still.”
You kiss him goodbye (for now) and find the others, placing the mask to shield him from seeing your expression but mostly so that you don’t see the heartbreak on his
epicentre of ellwood's grief
it's one thing to want to save someone's life and never be given the chance... but ellwood was given the chance, and failed (at least, this is how he views things). not only did he fail to make his dream come true, but he actively did the opposite. 'it's the least i can do to write to gaunt's parents - it's my fault he's dead'. his fault? if so, in two layers: one, riling burgoyne, and two, leaving a man behind.
ellwood's general survivor's guilt is mentioned in the novel - he longs to be back with hayes, thorburn, etc. but his survivor's guilt for gaunt is never explicitly mentioned - instead we must feel it as he does, too big to hold in our hands, let alone describe in words. every page after gaunt's death is filled with it, and yet it's hidden, too, because a soldier can be expected to behave strangely in the oh-so-strange arena of war. suicide missions and death wishes? oh, life at the front, people die all the time, ho hum. what about his dark jokes? well, black humour is the thing du jour. what about his cold attitude? he's just being a commanding captain. what about his tryst with watts? oh, ellwood just likes being loved. what about the eerie emptiness at the somme, grinning before they go over the top? strange, but he saved all those people, he must still have a warm heart...
until we get to the hospital, and suddenly ellwood's burning anger steps out of the shadows. it has nowhere else to hide. anger with the world, with gaunt, but mostly with himself. we are not told how ellwood changes - we are forced to witness it, just as he is forced to witness the disintegration of himself as a result of not only losing gaunt, but realising his greatest fear has come true: he killed him. if his biggest dream was to save gaunt's life, then surely his greatest fear was not only seeing gaunt die at another's hand, but being the cause of his death.
