thinking about my next penny jackson-wayne au and I want to mash it with anna elizabeth wayne (annabeth as bruce's daughter), but also kinda wanna make it athenide twins au too but I need to brainstorm it out so
Athena designs her child to look like either Pallas, Perseleia, or Arsinoe (not that she had to do much for the last two as they were near identical) depending on who she was missing most that day, sometimes mixing the three's features together
the only exception was the daughter she was creating for her most recent interest, Bruce Wayne, who not only finished a month later than she was supposed to, but also looks like a carbon copy of Arsinoe
Anna Elizabeth Wayne was born on August 12, same day as Penelope Helen Jackson.
Dick finds Anna on the front step one August 12th, and their life continued peacefully until Anna attends the first day of kindergarten and meets a girl that shares her face. That's Penny.
After Sally's recent marriage to Gabe, the man forced them to move out of New York to Gotham because of the cheaper rent and the Fates manipulating things, so Sally takes on extra jobs to pay for Penny attending Gotham Prep.
Anna, who'd just watched the Parent Trap with Dick the previous weekend, immediately concludes that they must be twins separated at birth. Penny is easily convinced, both because Anna is already a compelling arguer and because they're the Athenide twins reincarnated (or they will be the Athenide twins, have decided which).
They spend the day glued to either's hip (like this), but it isn't until lunch when they start to question why they were separated.
Annabeth mentions being left on Bruce's doorstep and the DNA test. Penny says she's seen pictures of her mom pregnant, but she said her dad was "lost at sea." Anna can only conclude that her dad was a lying liar who lies (since he already lies about not being Batman, what else could he be lying about!?)
By the time school's let out, the girls agree to talk to their parents about this and Anna's worked herself into a right fury about her dad's "abandonment of her twin sister and her mom".
Anna, on the phone: Dick, can you come home for dinner? I'm going to yell at daddy and I need backup. Dick: Already on the way, baby girl.
When Bruce comes home from work, Anna yells at him for an hour, crying half the time so no one really understood what got her so mad. it would have been longer if Alfred didn't interfere. Bruce then has to try to convince his distraught daughter that he told her the truth.
They're halfway through the evening when Jim Gordon calls his phone.
Meanwhile, after Penny went home, she had to wait for her mom to get off shift before telling her that she met her sister at school today, and why did you never tell me I had a sister.
Sally thinks Penny is talking about one of her godly sisters and thinks they're compromised, so she starts packing and trying to evacuate them from the apartment.
Gabe comes home while they're leaving and thinks Sally is leaving him. They fight and... well, Gabe kills Sally and runs off.
I'm sorry, but it has to happen. Sally can't be here, otherwise this is just going to turn into @chaoticdumbassrogue 's Bluebird.
...maybe Sally's in a coma.
Anyway, the cops show up and Jim Gordon trusts maybe two other officers with children, so Jim is trying to get her out of the cabinet she hid in, talks about her family, and learns that this little girl thinks her sister is Anna Wayne.
Jim: Weirder things have happened, and Bruce has an emergency foster license, so sure, let's call him.
Bruce isn't sure what to think about the emergency foster placement Jim was insistent he take, but he drives down to the precinct with Alfred and... omg, she looks just like Anna. With Bruce's hair color.
Even though the DNA test he will expedite confirms that he and Penny weren't biologically related, that's his baby now.
He brings Penny home, then puts on the batsuit to hunt down Gabe
Growing up, Anna acts as the leader between the two.
This is on purpose on Penny's part; she's convinced herself she has to be Anna's twin, otherwise the Wayne's will kick her out. So Penny defers to Anna a lot when it comes to birthdays or where to go or what to eat.
The only one emotionally intelligent enough to notice is Alfred (Dick isn't there often enough, sorry dude). He makes sure he has one-on-one time with Penny, specially baking together. They recreate Sally Jackson's blue chocolate chip cookies together.
Jason also knows about Penny's behavior, but that's because he's also trying not to get kicked out. They bond a lot once they realize that about each other.
Dick is Anna's favorite brother, while Jason is Penny's favorite.
But after the girls turn 6, the monsters start coming.
For Anna, its spiders. Monster spiders that only she and Penny can see, monster spiders that always know where she is. Bruce doesn't believe her about their existence.
You'd think having Penny to cooperate her story would help, but Penny also sees a one-eyed man following them to school sometimes, so her testimony isn't always accurate.
(That's her brother, sent by Poseidon, to keep an eye on her and beat Gabe to death in prison)
They spend a year like that, with Penny defending Anna from spiders, Bruce not believing them, Alfred getting mad at them for infecting the garden with mint to try and keep them at bay.
They turn seven.
Jason dies.
Bruce goes off the deep end, neglecting them both, maybe even blaming them if one knew Jason was leaving and didn't tell him.
So, the girls run away. Less than a week later, they meet Thalia and Luke.
