How do you feel about Hazbin s2ep2 with Sir Pentious being so miserable and his reaction to the "Like you" song? I saw your art of him and adore it so much, so I was curious

I feel so so BAD for the guy, we literally learned his backstory of him being a loner with no meaningful human connections, then the one time he actually made any friends for the past century or so in Hell, he gets dragged up to Heaven and is immediately bombarded with too much,,,, well, everything!

Imagine the few relationships that you've successfully cultivated were ripped from you and you're forced to live in a strange new alien world and you've just been informed that you can't see them 😭😭😭 He's so sopping wet cat this season, he's the princess locked up on a gilded tower, essentially, and I am absolutely HERE for it.

I do really like his budding friendship with Emily though, she's trying and that's what matters. I hope he eventually meets Molly too and becomes friends with her, and with Peter and Abel, just a whole gang of Heaven friends lol. One thing I wonder, however, is how adamant Emily was that he can't contact anyone from Hell. Is it the matter of extra protection? He IS special and nothing like him has ever happened before, maybe they just wanna monitor him more closely?? Is it because winner angels don't usually traverse realms? Maybe that's why Emily can go by herself, because she has the authority and the power to do so.

One thing I REALLY hope doesn't happen is for the show to basically say "wow, he's miserable up here in Heaven, maybe being in Hell was better after all," it would just defeat the whole purpose of the show itself y'know? I've seen a lot of people speculating for Pentious to return to hell and be with Cherri (I'm kinda on the fence with their relationship as a whole tbh, I kinda wanted it to stay as a one-sided crush more than anything, but maybe when ep 3 drops I'll change my mind once we get into Cherri's perspective), which is, I'm sorry for saying this, really just shitty wish fulfillment. You're telling me, the first ever redeemed sinner's fate is to just stay in Hell? I think, if we do have that happen it'd be better that he'd be Heaven's ambassador for Hell type thing. Working on the Heaven embassy in Hell so he could stay with his friends and closely monitor and be an encouragement for other sinners to strive for redemption.

I think the fandom as a whole in s1 downplayed how much of a big deal Sir Pentious being the first ever demon-turned-angel we have on the show. Which is why it is so good to see the show literally say to our face that he's one of a kind, literally no one is quite like him lol. I'm so glad his storyline is quite literally the center of a lot of major plot points in Hazbin. He's kinda overlooked in the fandom, but hopefully he gets more and more screentime cause I gotta be honest, his, Lilith's, Lute's plot points are what's intriguing me the most in s2.

Hi. I read your write up about religion and queerness, and I found it quite thought provoking, however, one statement you made ignores a whole subset of people.

'won't hear islamic criticism from non ex muslims at all, because you expect us to dismantle "our inner muslims" in ways you aren't ready to dismantle imperialism and racism in you.'

You assume, or rather imply that everyone with criticism of Islam is a racist imperialist. On the contrary, some of us critique Islam BECAUSE we are victims of racism and imperialism. People where I'm from were colonised twice, first by violent Arab expansionism and Jihads, and then by the British.

My country is almost 50/50 between Christianity and Islam, and a decent portion of it operates Sharia law. As a 'culturally Christian' person raised in the majorly Islamic north, it was hellish. I was lucky enough to be in a safe area, most were not. Non Muslims in the region were and still are lynched for being infidels and forced to follow Sharia. Countless people have been stoned, burned, or otherwise killed just for the accusation of them blaspheming the prophet, regardless of whether or not it was true. The rampant terrorism within the country mainly targets non-believers to kill, harass, or forcibly convert them (including by corrective rape). In every Muslim majority region of my country, this is the reality.

On the topic of racism, some of the worst anti-Blackness and racist harassment I've experienced has been from Muslim Arabs. Like all Abrahamic religions, racist faithfuls love to go on long tangents about how we're cursed by God. When a black person brings up the centuries of persecution from Arabs, or the modern day funding of human rights violations from the oil states; there is always an Arab Muslim rushing to tell us why we deserve it because we're backwards barbaric infidels who worship trees and are the descendants of a cursed man.

Of course this isn't all Arabs, nor is it all Muslims and ex Muslims.

But my people were not originally Muslims, nor were they originally Christians. Both were used against us as tools of colonisation. I don't have a problem with Arabs, but I have a severe problem with the historical and current bigotry many of them have shown towards Africans.

I don't expect anyone to dismantle their inner Muslim because I consider that type of thinking to be fundamentally flawed.

However, I also don't see why I should have to dismantle the imperialism and racism within me (when my people are the victims of said imperialism and racism from all sides) just to be allowed to critique the religion and culture that was used to exploit my people for centuries.

This is not to detract from what you said, because I agree with it completely. Nor is it to antagonise you. Just wanted to provide another perspective to all you've said.

hey so i am not arab btw for further clarity i get what you mean and honestly while i try to give nuance the world i am in will not allow me give enough nuance to not get attacked from every side ever. (not to say you do, it's just the treatment i've been already getting) my people were tengrist before they were muslim, and it's a whole lot of discuss from many sides of it, since it's not gone from our culture at all. i am also very much on the ex muslim territory.

the thing about it is how your pain is justified and valid, the other thing is how it will be used by first world to destroy you AND the muslims you live around, but you'll likely suffer first. i say this not so much from muslim raised perspective, but from central asian perspective. russians can be racist, they often are, but in front of the first world i will defend their asses because i know they don't actually care about my central asian pain, they just see it as a tool to kill us both.

the thing is it can and probably will be used against you too. i of course also hear west asian christian perspectives, anon i assure you i will hear out an armenian and an assyrian, you're in my priority far more than a blonde alex from michigan, i hope i make it clear

I also think Rhaenicent could’ve been a wonderful addition to the show if only HotD had better writers.

Ryan and Sara struggle to write women, you see that with all the female characters but it’s most jarring with Alicent and Rhaenyra because they view their ambition and anger as moral failings that need to be rectified.

Only men are allowed to have complex emotions like ambition, anger, avarice, cunning, rage etc.

I definitely see your point! I also think it's quite complex. I don't think it's necessarily they genuinely believe that, but more so within the patriachy that is sadly the truth. Women will always be significantly more harshly judged than men for showing any emotions as the ones you mentioned, but this is especially amplified in a medieval setting like HOTD.

It is definitely difficult to find a balance between painting Rhaenyra as a woman who deserves ambition and rage but also not excusing all the things she does. Rhaenyra is not necessarily a good person, I mean I love the woman but even in the show where it is so far a bit more subdued, she is still cruel and selfish. It is difficult to portray the level of ambition, anger and selfishness she deserves to feel relating to her struggles as a woman and also portray her selfishness, cruelty and anger as yes something that is bad but unrelated to her womanhood.

Alicent is also very complex, wow dude really that's crazy. On a serious note though, I do believe the show in a way puts too much blame on Alicent if that makes sense? What I mean is that the extent of her guilt we see portrayed when she is an adult feels. I don't know if I'll be able to explain it well. Ughh. Look, victims often blame themselves, but I think Alicent's guilt is portrayed too much or in a way that sort of gives off like the writing is trying to say she should actually feel guilty, and yes I mean her complex feelings involving guilt surrounding her poor relationships with her children is important to touch on, but it almost feels like it's trying to sometimes paint her as guilty/someone who should feel guilty for everything rather than portraying somebody who is filled with guilt and complex emotions but we are seeing it in a point of view where we understand this individual beats themselves up because of the trauma inflicted on them and that they've suffered through things which they couldn't control. Idk if that makes any sense it is 1:47am currently I think my last one braincell of my total of two has left for the night.

Idk I thought their portrayl of young Alicent and her suffering and complex emotions surrounding that were really well done, and I'd like to believe they didn't somehow do all of that accidentally 😭 So I do think they can definitely write Alicent well, but maybe if whatever evil voice keeps adding Alicent/Criston sex scenes at innappropriate times that feels dehumanising and degrading to Alicent leaves their brain we can get back what I think was tragically beautiful writing and portrayl when it came to young Alicent

Well, I for one do not feel comfortable participating in the challenges now because I know I will be cancelled and the mods will do nothing about it. I seen one mod basically say all OCs are welcome but basically they're still being judgemental.

And I see plenty of people on here defending Taylor to the death whilst body slamming people for having HP and ST OCs like they're allowed to have problematic faves and the rest of us aren't.

That sucks but that's your prerogative. But few things so you can make an informed decisions;
