i'm constantly thinking of the fact they had buck say two of eddie's lines from s3 in 9x10 and 9x12. eddie originally says the 'family is the people you choose' line in 3x11, and then they had buck say it to abigail in 9x10. what makes this especially interesting to me is 3x11 is connected to couch theory. eddie says the line to chimney, and the next shot is buck and chris together on the couch. in 9x10, buck says it to abigail, and the next shot is focused on eddie.
then in 9x12 (which also had a scene connected to couch theory), we have buck telling maddie that eddie fought like hell to come home. because that is what families do. we see eddie say a similar line in 3x15. he says it to shannon after christopher's birth, but it becomes the central theme of his whole begins episode. that episode ends with eddie saving himself and making the decision to legally tie buck to him and chris by including buck in his will. (sidebar: but this idea of fighting for your family comes back up one year later when the will is revealed. eddie tells buck: 'no one will ever fight for my son as hard as you')
so the fact that buck has said two major eddie lines (lines that i consider to be eddie's character thesis statements) leading up to 9x13 where buck and eddie will have this joint nde? i find it very interesting. eddie will always fight to come home to his family. buck is the family eddie chose for himself and christopher. and eddie picked buck to be christopher's guardian because he knows buck will fight hard for christopher.
