you don't know who he is, but you know that he's safe.

you sit next to him every day on the train ride home. no name, no words spoken, but you share the same stop and he makes you feel comfortable without trying.

he's a towering, brutish bull of a man with the softest mannerisms. the way he holds his phone is delicate, though his hands swallow it up completely from sight. the way he glances around is unobtrusive. he's careful and attentive. the way he sits down is silent despite obvious signs of muscle soreness from long construction shifts. he'll fix the folds of his tattered, dusty work shirt- patient and tender, with the tips of his oversized fingers, not with his palms. he watches every person get on, sizing them up, but carries no ill-intent.

the 20-minute, crowded ride home used to be a good reason to panic, lately. but ever since he started getting on, seated in the same spot - you're no longer unreasonably anxious, or flighty, or running the worst scenarios through your head.

everything about him screams reliable. he tells you, with no words, that you're gonna be okay as long as he's around.

and after one particularly tiring day- you accidentally fall asleep before your stop.

despite trusting him -with, realistically, very little evidence for it- you wake with a start, since the first thing you see when you open your eyes is his natural scowl. upon first glance and laden with sleep, it would seem as though he's incredibly pissed off and only helping you as a social courtesy.

but he waits for you. he lingers to help you to the platform, though he's not needed, offering a hand that you almost take just because you'd feel better if you did.

"may i walk you home?"

it's the first time you hear his voice, and it shocks you how smooth and rich it sounds at a barely-there mutter.

you take a breath to answer-- but he clarifies, warm in the face and less impressive this time. cuter, though.

"i just- i would like to make sure you get back safely."

you cover a sudden, giddy smile and let him walk you home; you realize it's been a long time since somebody made you feel this cared for.

with a strange pressure in the air, it’s like the universe knows something loud is coming and is politely stepping aside.

you drop your bag first. then your shoes. then your dignity.

aone is already there.

he’s sitting at the small kitchen table like a gargoyle carved out of discipline and protein powder, back straight, hands folded, eyes calm. he looks like he’s guarding a national treasure instead of waiting for you to finish unlocking the door.

you don’t even greet him.

you inhale.

“okay so first of all—”

his head tilts exactly two degrees. engaged.

“—why does that guy from my stats class think it’s okay to chew like he’s auditioning to be a sound effect for a swamp monster? like, i swear he waits until the room is silent and then unleashes it. it’s personal. it has to be.”

aone nods once. solemn. respectful. as if you’ve just disclosed a war crime.

you pace. your hands are doing most of the talking now. your voice keeps climbing like it’s trying to escape your body.

“and then my professor assigns a group project. a group project. in a class where nobody talks. so now i’m paired with chewlord and a girl who types like she’s mad at the keyboard. and guess who ended up being the group leader without consenting to this role?”

aone’s eyes soften. his jaw tightens. a pen appears in his hand. you don’t remember him picking it up.

“also,” you continue, spinning dramatically, “someone took my seat. my seat. i’ve sat there since week one. i don’t care that seats aren’t assigned, that seat is emotionally bonded to me.”

another nod. slower this time. he hums, low in his chest, like a piece of heavy machinery acknowledging input.

you’re on a roll now.

“and then i get coffee, right? except it’s wrong. wrong milk, wrong syrup, wrong vibe. it tasted like disappointment with a foam top. i paid a thousand yen for emotional damage.”

aone blinks. once. twice.

you keep going. ten minutes pass. maybe fifteen. time is a concept for other people. your voice rises and falls, your grievances stack on top of each other like a poorly constructed jenga tower of irritation.

through it all, aone takanobu does not move.

he watches you like you’re the most compelling documentary he’s ever seen.

when you finally stop, breathless, leaning against the counter with one sock half off, you feel lighter. wrung out. like you’ve screamed into the void and the void nodded back.

silence settles.

then—

“the guy,” aone says slowly, carefully, as if each word needs permission to exist, “chews with his mouth open?”

you stare.

“…yes.”

he frowns. just a little. it’s devastating.

“does he sit two rows ahead. left side.”

“…yeah.”

aone’s grip on the pen tightens. imperceptibly. but you see it.

“and he laughs before speaking. like he’s pleased with himself.”

your mouth opens.

“…yeah.”

he nods again. writes something down. you do not know where the paper came from. or why this feels like a court transcript.

“your seat,” he continues, eyes lifting back to you, “third row. aisle. near the window. you like the draft.”

“…i do.”

“you tap your foot when you’re annoyed,” he adds. “you did it when you talked about the coffee.”

you look down. your foot is tapping.

he clears his throat.

“you didn’t eat lunch.”

that one hits.

“…how do you know that.”

aone’s ears turn pink.

“you rant faster when you’re hungry.”

you laugh. it slips out of you before you can stop it, soft and a little broken, like you weren’t expecting to be known this thoroughly.

“you’re insane,” you say fondly, not meaning it as an insult, more like an observation of the sky being blue.

it’s immediate. like a building deciding to relocate. he moves closer, steps careful, gaze never leaving you, like if he looks away you might evaporate.

“i listen,” he says simply.

then, quieter, “i want to listen.”

he reaches out, hesitates, then gently takes your wrist, thumb brushing the pulse there like he’s checking if you’re real. like he needs confirmation.

“did the girl with the loud typing upset you more than the seat situation.”

you snort.

“no, the seat thing was worse. that was personal.”

he nods. satisfied.

“i’ll make you dinner,” he says. not a question. a promise carved into stone.

“you don’t have to—”

“I want to,” he interrupts, voice firm but soft around the edges when it comes to you. “you didn’t eat. you’re tired. you were polite to people who didn’t deserve it.”

you watch him move around the kitchen with quiet efficiency, like a man built for battle choosing instead to wage war on a cutting board. he glances at you every few seconds. always checking. always making sure you’re still there.

it’s… a lot.

but it’s warm.

when he hands you a plate, he waits. doesn’t sit. just stands there like a knight awaiting approval.

you take a bite.

“…this is really good.”

his shoulders relax like you just told him the world is safe.

you eat. he watches. he always watches. not in a way that feels heavy—more like reverent. like you’re doing something holy by existing.

“you can sit,” you tell him.

he does. immediately. close enough that your knees touch.

silence stretches. comfortable. thick with things unsaid.

then aone speaks again.

“the coffee you told me about,” he says. “you like it?”

you blink.

“…yeah.”

“tomorrow,” he continues, eyes steady, “i’ll make it for you. before class.”

your chest does something weird. like it’s trying to fold in on itself.

“you don’t have to wake up early—”

“I will,” he says. no hesitation. “i want you to start the day correctly.”

there it is. that edge. that devotion that borders on alarming if you think too hard about it.

you smile anyway.

“you’re… really something.”

his lips twitch. almost a smile.

“you’re everything,” he says, like it’s the most obvious fact in the world. like gravity. like math. like breathing.

you choke on absolutely nothing.

he leans closer, forehead resting against yours, voice dropping to something only meant for you.

“when you talk,” he murmurs, “i remember it. all of it. because if something bothers you, it matters. if someone upsets you, i notice. i don’t like it when people make your day worse.”

there’s a flash of something dark there. protective. sharp.

then it softens.

“i like being the place you put it all down.”

your hands curl into his shirt.

“yeah?” you whisper.

he nods.

“always.”

and when you start complaining again—about tomorrow, about life, about the world being mildly annoying—he listens like it’s sacred. like it’s his purpose.

the first time you’ll meet takanobu aone is that one time you thought you can finally hit your new pr. that time you got too excited, too enthusiastic, even basking in the stares of the other people at the gym as you carried the rubber plates towards your bench.

you really thought you can hit six reps after just a week of progressing to five reps. but then, as you stayed flat on your back on the bench, lifting the weight above your chest and pressing it back down, you feel your arms wobble at your fourth rep.

but you have always been stubborn so you pushed through. fifth rep, you felt sweat trickle down your temple, and you gritted your teeth as pain shoots all over your torso. you’re not even chest pressing anymore, you have begun overcompensating using your forearms, and your shoulders.

your vision starts blurring, but as you tried to go for a sixth rep, you feel your grip slipping. fear ran through your veins now, and you were so sure you will drop this on your own body. this heavy weight. your breathing starts to quicken as you began to panic. your arms are shaking now and you try to look around for help. but everyone seemed busy in their own world.

you squeezed your eyes shut bracing for the impact of a hundred and ten pounds of barbell dropping on your chest any minute now. any minute now.

but then, you felt something lift the weight from your hands and you opened your eyes. the clink of the metal as it was placed on the rack above you was the first thing that registered on your mind.

then a face. a face you have seen multiple times in this same gym, but never had a chance to talk to. you have seen few people only talk to him because he towers almost everyone.

you remembered you got intimidated by him the first time you saw him.

but now, as he looked down at your surely pathetic figure, all you can see is your savior. the one who saved you from the unimaginable pain, and multiple surgeries for sure. all because your ego thought you could handle it.

you breathed out a sigh of relief as your aching arms dropped to your sides. your savior did not say anything, not until you sat up, wanting to thank him.

what you didn’t prepare for is the bile rising up your throat because of overexertion as soon as your body is upright. you covered your mouth in response.

you tried to run to the bathroom, but your legs cramped. god, you were screwed. you closed your eyes to steady your breathing.

you heard a faint rustling, and then the smell of mint calmed your senses. a hand rubbed your back, and when you opened your eyes once more, you see that same man who saved you from your egolifting.

“take deep breaths”, you heard him say concisely. you knew this guy—aone?—never spoke at all. even with his friends surrounding him weeks back when they were training. even when you see him handling a difficult set.

his voice, nonetheless, sounded deep but calm. it weirdly soothed your nerves, and you followed his advice.

you inhaled, and exhaled. you kept going until your vision starts to clear. you can see him more fully now. his large hands held yours as he had you hold the smelling mint stick instead.

he spotted your tumbler beside the bench and he handed it to you. you took it, drank, and wiped your sweat with the back of your palm.

“thank you”, you finally told him. he only nodded in reply. he left the gym wordlessly after a few minutes, towel on his shoulder, duffel bag in hand, leaving you the comforting smell of mint on your hand.

the next time you saw him was on the weekend. you both got out of the locker room the same time. the instant you locked eyes with him, you gave a smile. aone bowed at you.

you searched your pocket for the stick he gave you back then. but this time, it’s new. you replaced it. you reached your palm towards him.

“about last time, thank you”.

his large hand wrapped around yours and closed your open hand, and he pushed it towards you instead. he shook his head gently.

he then reached toward his own pocket and showed you three smelling mint sticks. you blinked, then let out a giggle. he was the opposite of what you thought him to be. he was what they call—

“—a gentle giant”, you blurted your thoughts out loud. he seemed to be a bit shocked at what you said, and his eyes widened a bit. your hand flew to your mouth, and you folded your body in half as you bowed at him in apology.

you slowly stood upright and stared at him. you were never sure of what his name was. only heard from his friends who talk to him.

“takanobu aone”, he continued speaking. he held out his hand, and when you realized what he was trying to do, you grinned up at him. you shook his hand, and told him your name as well. “l/n y/n”.

It seemed that Hell was knocking on your doorstep. Time seemed to slow in agonizing pulses, and your very skin crawled as the pain tore through your abdomen and wrapped around your spine.

Your period had arrived once more.

You lay on your bed face down, a heating pad underneath your stomach and tylenol extra strength coursing through your veins. The desire to get out of bed and away from the heat source was non-existent, but your phone was just too far away to reach. You stretch out a hand and come up just half a foot short. You shift slightly and the pain roars in your stomach and up your back.

Nope, you think. Not worth it.

As much as being able to watch trashy reality shows helped to distract from the pain, maybe just laying here motionless was good too.

Laying there, trying to fall asleep to get away from the agony, you pouted, wishing that things were different and you didn't have to deal with this.

The sound of footsteps coming down the hallway alerted you to someone else's presence, but you elected not to attempt to twist your midsection into a pretzel of hellfire.

"Nobuuu, is that you?" you whined.

The footsteps grew closer until a large body lowered itself to your level and a face came into vision. The face that was stony to all but you was soft as your boyfriend's eyes carefully examined your expression.

"Nobu..." you whimpered.

"Yes?" he replied, his voice deep and rumbly.

"Can I have my phone?" You tried to look up through your eyelashes at him, but it was not very effective, seeing as you were laying down and your face kept pinching as your uterus tried to slam itself out of your body.

His lips turned up into a small smile. "Real Housewives?"

You nodded.

He nodded back and grabbed your phone, navigating to your favourite mind-numbing comfort show, but instead of simply handing it to you, he took it and crawled into your bed beside you and slid his arm under your neck, placing the phone perfectly in front of your face.

"Nobu, what are you--"

He shook his head, cutting you off. "Let me."

He pressed the play button with his thumb and let it play, his other hand drawing comforting circles on your back as the relaxing sound of jealous women filled your room.

Your cheeks filled with a blush, and the heat in your face distracted you from the deep ache in your abdomen. You snuggled into Aone's arm and let the heat of his body slowly ease the tension in your back.

Something shattered in him. Although he was somewhat used to it by now, he felt as if something sting in his heart.

He had always loved you from a distance. Watching you, whenever he thought you wouldn't notice. Daydreaming about you, whenever he couldn't look at you. Writing you letters, he knew you'd never receive.

Aone was a silent lover. And sometimes he hated himself for it.

Right now, he did. Seeing how so many guys were walking up to your place, placing valentine chocolates on your desk. He didn't.

It wasn't that he didn't want to. He certainly wanted to, that was safe to say. However, there was no way in hell you'd choose him over all the possibilities you were given.

His gaze traveled to you as you were entering the classroom, walking directly to your desk. You seemed uncomfortable, seeing how many chocolates you received.

Well, there weren't necessarily many chocolates. Nevertheless, it was more than the average student would get. Even though the average probably is close to zero.

Yes, Aone has been in love with you, ever since he first saw you. You had made eye contact a few times- exchanged smiles, even.

Still, Aone wished he could be closer to you. Unfortunately he didn't know how.

A long day of school went by and he was met with volleyball practice.

As he was walking to the gym, he noticed a silhouette standing in the doorframe of the gym, talking to somebody.

Realizing that that silhouette was yours surprised him. Your eyes met him, and you looked at him like you just found what you were looking for.

Smiling at him, you made your way to where he was now standing.

"Hey there! If you don't mind," your hands hid in your bag, searching for something. Pulling out chocolates, Aones expression turned into a stunned one. "Would you accept these?" you asked innocently, still smiling up at him.

He was speechless, to say the least. Quickly nodding, he carefully took the small box you were holding up for him.

This time, he didn't want to let this opportunity go. Thinking that it might be the only one he had. If he only knew what you were thinking.

"Do you want to go out with me?" this might be the most you ever heard him talking. It made you smile again. And Aone thought he found something even greater than you, smiling. You smiling, because of him.

"I would love to," standing on your tippy-toes, you tried to pat his head. After understanding what you were trying to do, he leaned down a little, allowing you to brush your hand through his short hair.

A little smile formed on his lips, as he slowly realized that he finally grew a bit closer to you.

"I'll see you then, Aone." Ready to go, you waved at him. "Takanobu." He corrected, barely able to look at you. "Please." You nodded.

"Enjoy practice, 'Nobu," he certainly didn't expect that. You left already before he noticed that he didn't have your number. How was he supposed to contact you?

You left, knowing, that the box contained not only chocolates but your number.

Aone x reader

Today was your first day with your job as a nurse working at a construction site in Miyagi. Despite boarding the early train, you frowned as you see the crowds of people standing, reminding you of a sardines commercial.

'So hot', you thought, wiping the sweat off your brow.

Your eyes scanned the area hoping for some miracle empty seats. It seems heaven answered your prayers when you see one on the far right.

Its weird though. People should have scrambled for that seat after all no one wants to stand on a crowded train but why is it that it still remain vacant?

Before thinking much further about it, you squeeze your way past the crowd towards the seat and tried to find out why.

Your answer soon came when you see a tall, heavy build man sitting alone beside the empty chair. He had a scowl plastered on his face- or maybe that's just his usual expression? And you see people scooting far away from him as possible.

You felt your heart tug at the scene. Somehow, you wondered how it would feel if you were on the shoes of the man. There is no threatening aura surrounding him anyway, just his intimidating stature.

You made your decision.

"Hi, is this seat available?" You asked, smiling kindly at the stranger. He looked at you, a brief flicker of surprise passed in his eyes. He nodded at your question and you thanked him, before sitting down, glad to finally rest your legs.

"My name is Yn. The train sure is packed today, neh?" You said, making small conversation. The man only grunted in response.

Ah, so he's not much of a talker.

But there's something about him that draws you in. Something that makes you feel the need to just talk and be kind to the stranger.

"Its my first today at work. My first job too so its a bit unnerving for me. What about you? Are you going to work too?"

The man regarded you for a bit before nodding. "Yes. My name is Aone"

Your smile widened even more. He's finally talking!

"Well, Aone-san its nice to meet you!" You enthusiastically bowed towards him while sitting and he does the same. You finally reached your stop and you sighed, knowing that your interaction finally ends here.

"Its my stop. Goodluck on your work!"

You took your things and made your way out the train only to see Aone beside you.

"Oh, is your job nearby too?"

Aone only grunted in reply and you continued chatting with him.

Unknowingly to you, Aone looks at you out the corner of his eyes. His heart feels warm and he felt really glad that someone is not scared of him, even taking the time to converse with his serious persona.

You were really pretty too with your friendly smile and short stature, he thinks with a slight blush on his face.

Soon, you reached the project site where you will be working from today onwards and you blinked confused when Aone stopped right beside you just outside the site.

"Wait, don't tell me this is where you work too?!"

Aone blinked in surprise as well before nodding at you.

A wide grin spreads on your face.

"That's pretty cool! Starting from today, I'll work here as a nurse. So if you need anything just drop by anytime!"

A smile slowly made its way to his lips as he agreed and bid you farewell, both of you in going in separate directions.

It has been a few months after that, and your friendship with Aone grew stronger. You sit with him every morning in the train when your shift coincides and sometimes you both eat lunch together.

You got used to his silent demeanor and accepted him for who he is to which Aone is most certainly grateful for. Whenever you find him distressed, you try your best to help him in whatever you can.

And that goes for you as well. Despite his usual silent and brooding personality, Aone is very perceptive of your emotions. He knows just when you are feeling down and in his own way, tries to cheer you up which in a weird way makes your heart flutter in response.

Your coworkers are constantly teasing you with him but you only laughed it off, thinking you're not pretty enough for him plus you're chubby and really short compared to his height of 6'4.

You saw his abs one time accidentally and you almost had a nosebleed. But then and again that serves to remind you that you were far from perfect to be with him.

You slept with a heavy heart that night.

"Yn-san are you okay?"

You blinked and suddenly were brought back to reality. Aone was sitting in front of you with a concern expression on his face.

"Ah, yes I'm good. Sorry I just spaced out for a while" You laughed in embarassment as you glanced at him. His eyes were intense as he gazed at you and suddenly you felt very hopeless in your attraction towards him.

You knew Aone can never look at you the same way you does to him. Deep inside, you already admits how far you've fallen for the man and for a few months you managed to keep it bottled up inside but you don't know why your emotions are suddenly spilling out of control now.

Aone can never be yours. He will only see you as a friend and maybe you'll just end up pining for him for as long as your heart can take. You wanted him to be yours and for him to claim you as his. But despite your cheery personality, you were very much afraid to confess your feelings.

After all, its better to keep it inside and still have his friendship right? You don't know what to do if you did confess and he ended up rejecting you. Your friendship just might end and you'll forever curse yourself for not keeping your mouth shut.

A finger suddenly wipes your tears and you looked at Aone in shock and confusion.

You're crying..?

"I don't like seeing you cry, Yn-san" Aone confessed, his clear eyes conveying hurt at seeing you in this state.

Your heart twisted at his concern and it takes all of you not to rush in his arms and convey your love for him.

The place had long been vacated by people and it was just the two of you.

Soon, embarassment starts creeping in and you curse at yourself for crying in front of him.

Wiping your face clear of any tears, you were surprised when you felt yourself enclosed in a warm embrace.

A gasp escaped your lips and you gazed upwards to see Aone, looking away with a cute blush on his face as he kept you in his embrace. Your heart started beating hard, you're afraid he can feel it but that concern fades away when he began to speak.

"I.. I don't like seeing you cry Yn-san" He repeated his earlier words then continued, "You're very important to me."

By this time, both your faces had prominent blush as you waited for him to finish.

"I have fallen in love with you for these past months that we spend together. Will you give me a chance to properly continue loving you?"

His hopeful eyes gazed into your own with much sincerity that tears started streaming down your face again. You nodded repeatedly, hiding your face against his chest as you tightened your embrace on him.

"Yes, of course Aone-san. I loved you all this time as well and want to continue loving you in the future. Thank you for giving me this chance."

You gave him a teary smile and he reciprocated before kissing your forehead.

"No, I'm the one who's thankful Yn-san. You made me really happy"

Extended ending~

"Now that we're in a relationship, you can call me by my name. No need for honorifics~" You suggested, grinning at the tall man.

"Very well.. Yn" He looked away with a blush as you cheered.

"That sounds better, darling~" You teased, giggling when he turned cherry red.

Sorry for the long update. I've been busy so much. Anyways lately I've been fangirling over Aone I mean he's so huge and may look scary but is just a big teddy bear.

I read once that his current concern is that no one wants to sit beside him in a train because of his scary appearance and my heart just went awww. I think its best if I write something about him too because I notice he doesn't have much fanfics when I search for it. Hence, the creation of this one!

Your boss had been particularly unforgiving that morning, and all of your hard work seemed to have been overlooked for the one mistake that had been made by a worker who was just there for the paycheck.

Your professors, on top of it all, had decided that towards the end of the semester would be the perfect time to add on multiple projects that made up a large part of your grade, all due within hours of each other.

Your bag felt heavy and your shoulders felt like they were holding cement bricks. You just wanted to go home and relax, but as always, you had things to do.

Whispering pulled you out of your little despair party and you couldn't help the smile that broke out across your face when you spotted the reason for the whispers.

"Nobu!" you called, rushing over.

He gave a small smile when he saw you, pushing off the gates he had been leaning against the catch you when you ran at him.

He barely moved when you collided, still as sturdy as he had been in high school.

"Hey sweetheart," he murmured.

"Hey, how was your day?" you asked, feeling a little bit better just having him at your side.

He shrugged, giving you a look.

"Babe, you don't have to, I know that you had a long day too," you told him, gripping your backpack straps.

He gave you the look again, and you sighed, handing it over.

"How was your day?" he asked, putting a hand lightly on your back.

"Long," you admitted, running a hand over your hair. "Professors are buckling down on projects and work was kind of a shit show."

Takanobu made a small noise, and you leaned into him.

He wrapped his arm around your shoulders, and you entangled your fingers together.

"What do you want for dinner?" you asked as you walked to your apartment. "I really don't feel like cooking much tonight. How do you feel about ordering take-out?"

"I can do it," he offered.

"It's okay, I know you had a long day," you told him.

"I want to," he replied. "You had a long day too."

You glanced at him, realized he wasn't doing to let this go, so you nodded.

"Alright, only if you want to though. There's always leftovers if worst comes to worst."

"Let me do this for you," he murmured, pressing a quick kiss to your temple.

You sighed, knowing that he wasn't going to let this go. "Alright Nobu, if that's what you want."

"I want to," he affirmed, squeezing your fingers lightly.

Takanobu had never been considered a people person, most people were terrified of him because of his stature and his resting bitch face. Not to mention that most of the time, he didn't know his own strength.

But he had never been like that with you.

He had always been hesitant to touch you, scared of hurting you, no matter whether you thought you could handle it or not.

Instead, doing things for you had been his way of showing you.

And, through the years, he had gotten more confident in touching you, though acts of service was still his main way of telling you how much he cared about you.

Carrying your bags, opening any door that didn't open on it's own, cooking dinner, cleaning the house when you had a weekend off, running baths when you got home late and he had been home for a while.

You were glad when you apartment building came into view.

And you had never been more glad that your apartment was on the third floor.

The elevator ride was a short one- the majority of which was spent with your boyfriend holding you to his chest just a little too hard, something you were okay with right now-, and Takanobu had his keys out before you could even reach for yours.

With someone with such big hands, he was surprisingly quick with them.

"Go sit down," Takanobu murmured, nudging you towards the couch gently, trying not to jostle you too much.

You were too tired to argue with him at this point, and plopped onto the couch with little preamble, listening to him chuckle as he moved around in the kitchen, things clinking together softly.

You sighed, breathing in the scent of your shared home, and pulled yourself up onto the couch, turning over onto your back to stare at the ceiling.

A kettle screaming alerted you to tea that he was making, and soon enough, there it was in your hand, just the way you liked it.

You sipped it contently, letting the warmth spread through your body, willing the tension out of your shoulders and then the rest of your body as things started sizzling on the stove.

Takanobu, in between checking dinner and starting laundry, took small breaks to press kisses to your face and head.

"I love you," you murmured, cupping his face during one of these breaks, thumbing over his cheeks. "Seriously Nobu, thank you for this."

"I love you too," he replied, pressing quick kisses to your lips before he scurried off to the kitchen to check on dinner again.

Yeah, he had already made your bad day so much better.

•Tsukishima•

tsukishima was usually very snarky and playful when it came to your relationship

back and forth bantering was how you two showed your affection for one another

but when tsukishima heard your soft cries from beside him he knew that this was a time where he had to be more cautious with his words,

“Hey, what's the matter with you?”

you turned to look at him, eyes puffy and red, with hot tears streaming down your cheeks

you swiped at your face and offered him a forced smile,

“I’m fine Kei, sorry for interrupting your beauty sleep.”

he didn’t miss the slight shake in your voice with your attempts to lighten the mood

he tsked and flicked your forehead,

“I’m not an idiot Y/N, why are you crying?”

you casted your eyes downward, too embarrassed to face your boyfriend

it’s not as if you didn’t think he’d care or you were too nervous to open up to him but you didn’t want him to view you as weak or troublesome,

“I guess I just haven’t been feeling the best lately. I’ve been getting sad more often than usual without a reason and I don't really know what to do.”

tsukishima looked at you as you tried to stop your lip from quivering

seeing you like this made his heart hurt

he always hated seeing you so upset but he wasn't always the best at reassuring you during your time of need

he sighed, more towards himself then you, and pulled you into him

“Kei wha-”

“Quiet,”

“But what are you-”

“Y/N, save me the embarrassment and just cuddle with me, will you?”

your eyes widened at his statement, it was very rare for tsukishima to initiate something like this 

but you didn’t complain, curling up next to him and wrapping your arms around his figure

soon after, the feeling of sadness washed over you once more as you tried to hold back your tears

you didn’t want to seem ungrateful by continuing your pity party

after all tsukishima practically leaped out of his comfort zone to help you 

however, as you shook lightly in tsukki’s hold you felt his arms that were encasing you give a soft squeeze,

“you can let it out, it’s just us Y/N.”

once those words met your ears tears began flowing down your cheeks all over again

tsukishima held you, running his slender fingers through your hair until you fell limp in his hold, slipping out of consciousness

once he knew you had fully drifted off to sleep he placed a kiss on your tear stained cheek,

“I love you.”

•Aone•

aone was a very light sleeper, so he didn’t miss the light whimpers that escaped your lips as you lied next to him

at first he didn’t really know what to think, maybe you were having a nightmare or something of the sort?

but when he heard a sob rack your body he knew that wasn’t the case

aone wasn’t one to freak out over things, he was very composed and calm even in difficult situations

so, as soon as he sensed something was wrong he didn’t hesitate to take initiative

sitting up and gently shaking your shoulder, he spoke in a soft voice,

“Y/N.”

you turned to face him and immediately he could make out the tears staining your cheeks

he was never one to use his words, choosing to stay quiet for a vast majority of the time, but you didn’t ever mind

his actions had always spoken so much louder then his words ever could

you knew how much he loved you, it was displayed with every single thing he did

and when he silently tugged at your hand, lifting you away from the covers and into his warm embrace, you felt his love all over again

he lightly rubbed your back as you continued to cry into his chest, your arms lazily returning the hug 

a part of you felt embarrassed being caught in such a vulnerable state but the way your boyfriend was caring for you washed away any feeling of unease

after a while, the soothing rhythm of aone’s large hand moving up and down your back brought you to a state of peace

however before the two of you drifted back off to sleep, aone tugged on your hand once more, pulling you out of the room

“Aone, where are we going?”

he didn’t answer you, just pointed in the direction of the front door

you were confused but figured it would just be simpler to comply with his unknown idea then to ask questions 

aone pushed open the door and the cool air met the exposed areas of your body

you shivered a bit as you watched your boyfriend sit down in front of you, staring up at the night sky

he looked back and patted the spot next to him, signaling for you to join him

as you sat down, aone wrapped an arm around your shoulder and pulled you close, letting his body heat warm you up

the two of you sat there watching the stars in each other’s company

it was nights like these where you were truly grateful to have someone like aone in your life

•Ushijima•

ushijima was never exactly good at understand emotions or comforting others

so when he woke up to hear you softly sobbing beside him, he didn’t know how to react

his first instinct was to ask your upfront what was wrong but he had been told many times before that he was too blunt and he didn’t want to make things worse for you

so, he lied there trying to figure the best way to approach the situation

that was until he heard you get quieter and quieter, and soon enough your whimpers grew silent

he was confused at first but he figured you just had a nightmare and decided to approach you about it in the morning

after squirming around a bit, trying to get comfortable, he finally settled by your side with his large arm draped around your mid section

he always loved these nights with you, it gave him the opportunity to be in your company without the constant worry of conversation

he knew you didn’t mind his silence but the nagging from his teammates had made him a bit insecure about his quiet nature

so, being able to just lay down and enjoy your presence was definitely a favorite moment for him

he began to drift off into sleep until he heard your quiet cries once more, the sound leaving a pang in his chest

although he was not the best when it came to feelings, he did not want you to go through your issues alone, so he sat up and turned to you,

“Y/N, what is wrong?”

you flinched at the sudden sound of his voice, not realizing you had woke him up,

“Oh, sorry Toshi. I just had a bad dream, that’s all. Don’t worry you can go back to sleep.”

“You had been crying earlier as well. Is there something bothering you?”

you had tried to hid your emotions from your boyfriend for so long, but iit wasn't as if you didn’t trust him or didn’t want to confide in him

you just didn’t want to worry him or make him feel awkward about the whole situation, which is why you had been trying your best to muffle your sobs

but seeming as the whole plan back fired, you had no other choice but to come clean,

“It’s just, I’ve been feeling kind of off lately. I don’t know exactly why but I just feel sad,” 

you peered up at ushijima through damp lashes and watch as his brows furrowed at your words

quickly you cut the conversation short, already feeling as if you were bothering him,

“I’ll be okay though so don’t worry, lets lay back down, okay?”

you leaned back to snuggle into the covers when you felt ushijima grab your wrist

“Come with me.”

“Huh?”

he didn’t give you an answer as he hauled you out of bed and towards the bathroom

you sat yourself down on the floor as he kneeled in front of the tub, turning on the water and grabbing some bubble bath from under the counter

you watched as he prepared a bath, humming your favorite song subconsciously as he did so

soon enough he had finished, wiping his hands on his pants and turning towards you,

“Undress please.”

your cheeks flushed at how straight forward he was with his words but you complied none the less

once you had stripped yourself bare, he lightly grabbed your hand and helped you into the tub

he spent his time kneading your body, earning groans of satisfaction from you as he released the tension in your sore muscles

as he massaged some shampoo into your scalp he spoke up,

“I am not good with my words, you know this. But when I am feeling unpleasant, I enjoy relaxing like this. I hope you do as well.”

your heart melted at his statement

he always tried his best in your relationship, even though he was unfamiliar with the concept

“It feels really nice Toshi, I’m definitely feeling a lot better.”

“I’m glad Y/N.”

he paused his actions for a moment as he peered directly into your eyes,

“I love you very much.”

you smiled up at him as you brushed your fingers across his cheek,

“I love you too Toshi.”

•Daichi•

daichi had noticed something was a bit off with you this past week

you seemed quieter and less cheerful then normal

so it wasn’t a huge surprise to him when he woke up to you crying into your pillow

despite his anticipation, it still broke his heart to hear your soft whimpers as you clutched the fabric beneath you

daichi wasn’t one to hesitate when it came to comforting you

whenever you had been down he was always right there, ready to pull you into a tight embrace or place gentle kisses on your forehead

and tonight wasn't any different as he grabbed your shoulder and turned you so he could see your face

his fingers gently swiped across your cheek, collecting the tears that you had shed,

“Y/N, what's the matter?”

when it came to your boyfriend you had always felt this sense of comfort, even when you’d try to hide your emotions or go through things by yourself, he was always right there with you

so when he asked you that question you felt compelled to let him know the truth

“I-I don’t know. I just feel so empty and broken, I don't know what to do. I’m sorry Daichi.”

“Hey, there’s no need to be sorry babe. Life can get the best of us sometimes and I understand that. But remember Y/N, you aren't alone in all this. I'll be right by your side, always.”

you looked up at him and smiled at his words, letting out a soft hiccup as he cupped your face in his hands

“Do you wanna talk about it some more?”

you shook your head slowly

daichi brushed his thumb across your cheek and pulled you close, pressing a chaste kiss against your forehead,

“Alright, do you wanna watch a movie?”

that suggestion received your immediate approval

you two always watched a movie at the end of your rough days, it was the perfect way to spend time with one another and get your minds off anything that had been bothering either one of you

you snugged up to daichi as the light from the laptop illuminated your faces

he wrapped his arms around you and placed a kiss to the top of your head,

“I love you Y/N.”

“I love you too Daichi.”
