I want to make an aromantic zine
Been craving to make something specifically for my aromantic community for quite a while now, and the zine beast has spoken. So many complex feelings I have about this state of being that I crave to share! After all, I have been participating in this label consciously for soon a decade. Not to mention I rarely see us represented either...
Would you like to be part of a small community zine?
I would love to collect stories, letters, poems or any written work from my aromantic siblings. To put them together into a whole piece, stitched together with our souls. Thinking about a small booklet, that I will happily print, bind and ship to any participant who wish to receive one. Maybe I will make some extra ones as well for others to enjoy!
However, this will be an impossible feat to accomplish alone, so please tell if you would like to be a part of it! If I don't find anyone, I will still create a zine but filled with my experiences alone.
I will likely post about this in the future again too, if people show interest I will definitely make a survey open to fill out. Until further notice, please take this as an open call :3 No previous experience required! Just the wish to share your world, and speak us a little bit more into existence.
Keep it 16+, I don't want to censor this project(unless necessary).
Feel free to share it around! No set due date, but I'd love to have it made by spring :>

community weekend
Since my graduation in '23 enough time has passed for me to stop clinging to the last bits of student life. And yet, the international student association I was part of decided to host one of their networking weekends in my home town. Of course I am going to crash the afters!
An old friend who is still an active Phd student came to the cabin hangout as well. He is such a wholesome cuddly bro and we hugged for a long time. He was more affectionate towards me compared to when we both first joined the organization. We never talked about our queerness out lout, but we did spot each other during last year's pride - me with the aro flag and him rocking the bi colors.
But there are new faces too - there always are. And as Sunday comes to an end with everyone on their trains back home, the instagram requests start comming in. One request is from this incredibly cool Czech girl. I can just tell that she's cool by the smirky looks she has been giving me all weekend long. A few messages in, she drops the bomb: "Can I ask you something? You don't have to answer. But are you straight?" and I reply with a post about Aromantics.
"omg omg! i thought that you belong to us"
A few weeks later we hang out on a 1:1 for a beer and yap about life and our dating history. It is incredible how well we get along in this very new friendship. Looking at my current friendships in my life, one thing becomes a little too obvious. So I straight up ask her: "don't tell me you are neurospicy in some way..." Turns out she has ADS.
And that settles it. The great majority of my friends are women who are either gay or neurospicy or both!
Empires Always Fall (Aros Against Fate book 1) intro!
Thousands of years ago, the Annals of Prophecy were delivered by the gods. They have never been wrong. They state that a Divine Era is coming.
Jue is the Younger Emperor of Rāmia. Hir uncle and guardian the Elder Emperor Raiqiongshē has proclaimed the support of the goddess of conquest, Corysecli; the empire's expansion will therefore bring the Divine Era. The empire is now at war and Jue can no longer put off betrothal. Ze would rather die than get married. Ze must escape betrothal, even if that means abandoning everything ze has ever known.
Daanah is a Divine Scribe, able to manipulate the world with her words- at the eventual cost of her life. When she uses magic far more powerful than should be possible, it sparks the interest of several parties, including the empire, the Temple of Corysecli, and a powerful religious leader with an alternate interpretation of the Annals of Prophecy, and becomes embroiled in a conflict between religious factions that has enormous political ramifications.
Halek is a revolutionary. When the empire declares divine support and goes to war, things get a lot more urgent, and two of Halek’s comrades kidnap Jue, which Halek is not at all prepared to deal with. Things get complicated fast, with the revolution kicking into high gear, and Halek has to balance the world’s freedom with his family’s safety. They can’t get involved in this- but the empire must fall, and it must fall now.
Zhe’ārani is an Initiate at the Temple of Corysecli. She doesn’t remember her past, but does remember that this isn’t really her religion, and she is serving the temple out of a life debt. The other Initiates have become her family, but she has never really felt comfortable with the violence of it all. As the Temple gets ever more involved in imperial politics, she must decide what’s most important- stability and repaying her debt, or following her conscience and doing the right thing?
With the empire teetering on a knife's edge, will it rise, or will it fall? And what will that mean for Jue, Halek, Daanah, and Zhe’ārani?
chapter one
Aro rep but make it cupioromantic cause I said so
🍑🩰🤍👾🪦
-Character hates seeing their friends starting to date, low key resents their friends S.O’s but feels guilty about that and tries to repress it and do their best to be supportive
-Falling in love with the fabricated idea of someone; aka concept crush. Swooning over day dreams they make in their head about this “perfect person”
^^bonus points if the concept crush exists to give MC something they lack ex: if mc wants to be an artist theyd picture their concept crush constantly validating their art, if mc doesnt leave the house much theyd picture their concept crush as someone rushing to take them on all kinds of adventures.
-Denying red flags or incompatibility of a romantic interest because they so badly want it to work. Gets frustrated that real person isnt meeting their fantasies (you can really write a tone shift as this goes on with the rom relationship becoming more of a chore as reality sinks in)
-MC Thinking they are just polyam instead of Aro because they could care about multiple people without hierarchy (apparently its “weird” to be theoretically down to makeout w or do sexual shit with any of those ur close with, most alloro’s will not feel the same way lol)
-MC Wanting people to have a crush on them & trying to be as “loveable” as possible (even to ones detriment)
-Conflating actions with attraction. Ive legit told people that “if we just stop cuddling, hanging out 1on1 as much and saying ily, then that will avoid you developing or furthering any romantic attraction”💀 as if it was a math equation
-Either not putting much effort into new people cause theyre tired of making connections where their not anyones first choice or trying to force it and go way too intensely/quickly cause they want that connection and dont care who its with.
-Always feeling like theyre just pretending to love someone & feeling like their love isnt “real” because it isnt romantic/meeting amatonormative standard’s.
-Taking horrible dating advice because they dont know any better
-Having to process A LOT that romantic attraction isnt just sexual attraction
-Having to explain that QPR’s arent just glorified roommates or bestfriends or dating or a situationship etc etc.
-Being sad after a break up or sad someone now sees them as “””just””” a friend because it means theyre no longer prioritized to anyone
-WANTING THE SAME AFFECTION UR FRIENDS OR PEOPLE GIVE TO THEIR LOVERS BUT NON-ROMANTICALLY
I might just straight up not be aware of a huge chunk of adult media, but why is so often that in any adult media (esp. Live action), the most significant points of conflict all always involve some kind of romantic relationship, and like. Not even good ones.
It's always like "but why can't they just TALK to each other!" And it's bc one of the ADULT people in this relationship is MAD at the other for like. TALKING to someone who isn't them! Or for having a platonic relationship outside of their romantic partner!
It's just never REAL stuff, just petty shit that adults should be OVER.
Like, being upset when the other person has hurt you and you need to be alone for a while? Perfectly understandable.
Being angry like a 14 year old currently going through puberty bc your partner has *gasp* SMILED at someone who they could be attracted to???? They MUST be cheating on me, how could they do this to me???? I, WHO IS OVER THE AGE OF TWENTY, SHALL NEVER EVER SPEAK TO THEM AGAIN!!!
And this is just boring. Most boring shit ever. And it never goes any deeper than that! And i also think that it's also just bad writing. Like, you couldn't think of any real conflict so you just blew one tiny thing out of proportion and called it a day?
And also, when the biggest conflict of a story is just some "will they, won't they?" stuff? Who. Fucking. Cares.
Romance is perhaps the fucking cheapest genre, and not because it can't be good, but because so much media uses it solely as a crutch for *actually* good writing.
The human psyche has so many things going on, but nope, let's go with "bad romance plot No. 9376" bc ppl would rather engage with that instead of any other part of human life.
And even when there IS more than just a romance plot, there's ALWAYS at least ONE story-relevant romantic subplot. Or when two people get close, no matter HOW or over WHAT they bond, they always have to kiss and have sex???? (Depending on the specific media) "oooh, i hate their fucking face and everything about them but we're ALONE with NO ONE ELSE AROUND, we can't NOT fuck!!!"
Seriously guys, who established this, because this CANNOT just be how straight people are. I mean come on. I know they got some of the weirdest ideas about how humans works, but come on.
enough
“i wish i had a partner,” my friend sighs, “i’m so lonely.”
but i’m right here, i think. although i don’t say that. instead i say, “why?”
my friend shrugs. “i just want someone to go on dates with, y’know? we can hold hands, go to the movies, cuddle, that sort of stuff.”
i frown. “don’t we do that?” we don’t call them dates, but we’ve definitely done everything they mentioned at least once.
they sigh again. “it’s not the same.”
“why not?”
“i don’t know. it’s just different. i guess i just want somebody to love me.”
but i love you, i think, i’m right here and i love you so much. why does it matter what kind of love it is? you mean so much to me regardless.
why can’t i be enough for you?
“you get it, right?” they say. and i nod, a painful, confusing ball of emotions settling in the pit of my stomach.
i don’t get it at all.
