So.. it’s Winter Break!!!!! And that means..
Christmas and Thanksgiving..
Lots of fun and freezing in the snow, wishing I were somewhere hotter but secretly enjoying the numbness in my toes.
And my fave, having an excuse to wear turtlenecks every single day, the basic clothing item everyone in life needs in their wardrobe.
Yes, it’s still autumn, but luckily my University is done with school for the year. I know there’s the Thanksgiving holiday that glorifies the interactions of Natives and Pilgrims in 1621 to celebrate the first successful colonial harvest in America. I say glorifies because we know the Natives were subjected to egregious racism, violence, and displacement to this day.. but Turkeys amirite?? (which came right on time for the Keystone Pipelines-which many Native Americans protested as a result of the harm it would do to our sacred lands and the earth-to burst and spill 210,000 gallons of oil in South Dakota. The largest to date. Hmm.)
Recently, school came to a close for the semester, and with that comes the (much anticipated) end of 2017. I know I’m not alone when I say it…but what a year, right? I know a few of y’all are with me when I say this year was heavy…but impactful. I’m going into 2018 a changed person than from who I was at the beginning of this year. I am still me, but the knowledge and growth I’ve accumulated are helping me to realign myself with my goals using an updated mindset, a renewed sense of motivation and purpose, and excitement for what is to come.
WU Media had our last meeting for the semester, and instead of something overly formal, I encouraged everyone to melt down, open up about how they felt this year went for them, and what they would change. I loved the vibe of the room with the low lights, incense, music, and good vibes. I had to get a couple of photos to capture the moment.
Originally I was taking photos using my Canon, but I started testing out the iPhone 7 camera with it’s different built-in filters and found I liked that even better. Paired with my handy dandy photo editor, I did a bit of editing…
Without further ado, enjoy these awesome, beautiful people.
