I... have a question. feel free to delete my ask if you're uncomfortable. I'm also a lesbian from the middle east so I figured you would be the best person to speak to. I have a really complicated relationship with religion (islam specifically) and considering how most ppl in the middle east (especially arabian gulf) are raised in muslim households, I assumed you probably have experience with islam as well. if im correct, can you pls tell me what made you quit religion and why? thank you.
Not uncomfortable at all, I'm glad you reached out.
I should preface this with the fact that I am not an ex-muslim, so I'm mostly sharing this for other middle eastern radfems to share their experiences and hopefully give you a more suited answer. I was lucky enough to be raised in a mostly atheist family, where religion was only ever expected of me by extended family and my country's society at large.
I gave religion a brief chance in my teens when I was going through a depressive time, but it didn't end up sticking because I couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to think a being aware of the suffering of people and able to stop it was simply not doing it. My lack of religion comes only from the fact that we have no proof of it.
I really wish the best for you, anon, I hope you can find a better answer on here
