Happy Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week, February 17-23!
An Aromantic, or Aro, is a person who experiences little or no romantic attraction to others. This attraction, like sexual attraction, occurs on a spectrum and includes Demiromantic, Grey-Romantic, and more.
Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week occurs each year after Valentine’s Day, support the aromantics in your life by spreading awareness!
Happy Aro-Spec Awareness Week!! ♥
[image description: aromantic pride flag colors/stripes in the background (green, light green, white, gray, black) with a black square on top with the following text in green and white:
Aromantic
does not experience romantic attraction (towards any gender)
The aro spectrum includes gray-romantic, demiromantic, lithromantic, and other varing degrees of romantic attraction.
But that does not mean aro’s are cold and incapable of love! There are other forms of love outside romantic, like platonic and familial, and aromantic individuals may even enter relationships based on platonic or sexual attraction.
A QPR, or queerplatonic relationship is one based on deep platonic attraction and involves a strong, emotional bond.
Many people think that every aromantic person is also asexual (and vice-versa), but that’s not the case, either. Someone can be allosexual and aromantic. :) Everyone is different. ]
Arospec Awareness Week
Hey! So Arospec Awareness Week is coming up 17-23 Feb and I have a writing/story challenge for anyone interested. Reblog this post linking a piece of work of fantasy (can be fairytale or other) that centers on an arospec character. The piece can be by you or by someone else, as long as it is centered on the arospec character. No word limit or form limit!
The tag (if you’re posting/writing) is #AroFantasies!
Have fun and I look forward to seeing what happens!
Thamk u.... For the yelow flowor... ..,
i’ve been convinced for a solid 3 days this messages was morse code trying to tell me something which I got HSU from
then I thought maybe the m=n of the ‘thamk’ was suppose to be something along with the singular ‘l’ from yellow then owo is in flower but that’s owo so maybe that doesn’t count or MAYBE it’s that ‘e’
so N (H) L E (S) (U)
and essentially I didn’t answer this for 3 days because I was trying to figure out the message and have ultimately decided either I’m just not gonna get it or there’s no hidden message and this is just casual speak but I Just Didn’t Believe That
welcome for flower, as big big aro myself i tried to post stuff about aro week
Prompt 2 | Visibility
How has representation (coded or explicit) in media helped you? How has a lack of it harmed you?
Representation? In my media? It’s less likely than you think! .... And that’s the problem. The first time I found out about an aro(spec) character, it was because I searched for one since I already identified as aro and wanted to know if there are any aro(spec) chars out there.
I feel like Jughead helped me most with identifying as aro, though. If I would’ve read the Archie/Jughead comics sooner, it would have made things a lot easier. Jug is just such a #mood and I relate to him very much.
Now, I wouldn’t say a lack of it has actually harmed me, but it definitely made things a lot more difficult. Wherever you look it’s about romance, finding a romantic partner to spend the rest of your life with, go on dates etc. and I just.... never liked that. I’ve never wanted that. And frankly, I never got it. (It happed too many times that someone was very nice to me and I just thought this person was very friendly when they were, in fact, flirting with me.)
If aromanticism and its spectrum were widely known, would you be more open about your arospec identity?
Kinda hard to tell. On the internet I’m already pretty open about being aro, but I tend to not tell people in real life. Mostly because it doesn’t always fit the topic, but also (and maybe mainly) because it’s not that well-known and I’m tired of people not believing in aspec people. So it wouldn’t make a difference on the internet, but in real life I’d definitely be more open about it.
Happy Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week 2019! I wrote this article to celebrate. Disclaimer: This is the story of my personal experience and
My experience growing up from a child who loved the idea of love and romance, to an aromantic adult. Happy arospec awareness week 💚
