What is the difference and correlation between aroace and asd? Also what is the difference and correlation between dysphoria and not understanding society and asd? Also I wanna say that you're really smart and um I like how science-oriented you seem

ASD & Aro/Ace—

Hi! Okay so this was a tough one. I wouldn’t say there is any direct connection between being aro/ace and autistic. Everyone experiences gender & sexuality differently and I don’t think that a neurobiological condition would make you any more or less likely to be ace. However, many autistic people prefer to be alone because there is no pressure to do or say anything that they do not want to. This means that a lot of us identify as aro/ace because we genuinely do not see the point of having a romantic relationship— there is just no appeal!

There’s also the issue of physical touch. Many autistics have touch aversion and are hypersensitive to touch. This means that we may not enjoy hugs or other displays of affection. This can also influence relationships, causing someone to be asexual but not necessarily aromantic. Others may just intrinsically not experience any form of romantic/s attraction.

I would like to mention that not all autistics are aro/ace! Actually the majority of autistic people I know are allo! “All autistics being asexual” is a stereotype that largely comes from the media (sherlock holmes, sheldon cooper, etc.) but stereotypes can definitely be true sometimes!

ASD & Gender—

Autistic people have difficulty recognizing & understanding social norms, which means that a lot of us experience gender differently. This can cause dysphoria and feeling like you don’t really fit into any gender norm (which is why a lot of us identify as agender or nonbinary)!
