Okay so it's Ashley Appreciation Week (and as always I am constantly late, sorry!). Here are my favorite things about Ashley: 

-Her relationship with her sisters rings true to how most people are with their siblings. I especially like that she's the protective older sister who will absolutely rush to have some words with anyone trying to hurt her sisters (even if she is light years away) but will also recognize how and when her sisters can take care of themselves. So it's a good balance, I think. She lets them fight their own fights but she’s also there as backup.  -She has a rough side to her that she tones down in order to be there for the people she loves during hard times. One of my favorite Ash moments is when she talks about going to see Liara after the fall of Thessia. It's a bit like realizing the person who is not at all the consoling and hugging type is actually a great person to talk to because they understand pain and are a good listener. Something tells me Kaidan helped her with that -Her love of poetry. The way she recites Invictus, the pain in her voice, that is just beautiful. A stunning moment in ME3 (note: Kimberly Brooks, thank you!) But really, the end of the poem is SO Ash: It matters not how strait the gate,     How charged with punishments the scroll,   I am the master of my fate:   I am the captain of my soul. -Ash will say twice that she's the "only one" left (see Caryl's cool gifset here). If you have deep deep deep abandonment issues, if you worry about losing everyone *and* surviving them, I think you’ll find this side of her extremely relatable. And heartbreaking, really.  -She has so many funny lines like "Just because I can drill you between the eyes at a hundred meters, doesn't mean I can't like sensitive stuff" or "Why is it that whenever someone says 'with all due respect', they really mean 'kiss my ass'?" There is a mischievous side to Ash that is plain glorious.  -Ash had to work and fight harder than everyone else around her because of her family's history... And she not only managed to rise through the ranks, she became a Spectre. It's extraordinary and I'm so proud of her! -I think we’re very lucky to have a character like her in Mass Effect: someone deeply flawed but very genuine and raw who ends up learning from her mistakes. Ash in ME3 is a different Ash than the one in ME1 and that’s real character development there :)
