Attarshamayn and Worshiper Text in Old Aramaic, dedication of Baraq to the goddess Attarshamayn ("Attar of the Heavens", related to Attar, Atargatis, Astarte) 11-10th c. BCE, likely crafted in ancient Assyria. Atarshamayn. Pl. Ill, 5. Burnt carnelian. 21 X 9. Brought from Djeblé (Gabala). Goddess advancing on the right, dressed in a long split garment, a sword at her side, wearing a polos crowned with globules and surmounted by a star; she holds in her left hand a ring made of globules, and she raises her right hand; from her head, a dewlap falls to the height of her waist. Behind her, a recumbent ibex, a lozenge, a bucranium. In front of her, an offering table, laden with a footed vase, a bird, and another object. To the right, a bearded figure, long-robed, stands in the attitude of prayer, hands outstretched with palms in the air. Above the scene, crescent and eight-pointed star. In the field, inscription in Phoenician characters: HTM BRO BD TRSMN, seal of Baraq, servant of Atarshamayn. Note the archaic character of the letters, and in particular that of the daleth without a tail. This carefully crafted cylinder appears to belong to the class of Assyrian cylinders .11 from the 10th century (1). Phoenician characters were commonly used in these ancient times for the transcription of Aramaic, and do not allow us to conclude that the seal was engraved in Phoenicia. Moreover, if Baraq (2), the owner of the cylinder, had been Phoenician, his tutelary deity would not have borne an Aramaic name, where the element Atar is the equivalent of the Phoenician Ashtart. The fact that the cylinder was found in Gabala, in Phoenicia, is therefore probably fortuitous Atarshamayn, "Atar of the Heavens," is still known only from a single text, notably later than our cylinder. Around 640, Ashurba-nipal was campaigning against the Arab tribes of the Syrian Desert (3), and his annals specify that he then subdued "the band of Atarsamayn and the people of Oedar" (4). No doubt the people of Atarsamayn were Arabs, just as the people of Qedar were, and they were named after their principal deity. It was a form of the Lady of Heaven (I), whose cult is common to the Semites. Perhaps the warrior goddess, represented on the seal, is the one named in the inscription. This text seems to be composed with the decoration. Barak must have ordered his cylinder as we see it, and, in this case, it will seem natural that he had engraved on it the goddess whose servant he proclaims himself.

A Prayer for Peace from ancient ʾUgarit

Hey all, this is another personal take on an ancient Ugaritic text, this time KTU 1.123 (=RS 24.271). This is a prayer for peace (i.e. general wellbeing) addressed primarily to the Children of ʾEl. I worked with Dennis Pardee's translation from Ritual and Cult at Ugarit (2002, pp. 150–52) with some reference to del Olmo Lete's and Sanmartín's Dictionary of the Ugaritic Language in the Alphabetic Tradition (3rd edition, 2015) for wording as well as interpreting some of the broken and obscure names and titles. I've also included in-text notes for further elaboration. I felt inspired to finish this by the occulation of Mars by the Moon earlier tonight and I really hope you enjoy it!

Prayer to the House of ʾEl for Peace

Ẓiẓẓu-wa-Kamathu, [a.k.a. Kamosh, National God of Iron-Age Moab. The component Ẓiẓẓu may mean "Mud", perhaps reflecting a chthonic aspect of Kamosh.]

Yariḫ and Kasả, [Parallel to Keseʾ, the Phoenician Goddess of the Full Moon]

also Yariḫ of the Kassites, [presumably the Ugaritic name for a Kassite Lunar God, although I wonder if the Kassite affixation indicates the East with some possible astronomical significance]

Thukamuna and Shunama, [Youngest Sons of ʾEl and ʾAsherah, appearing in ʾEl's Drinking Party]

Kabadu-wa-Nuru, Keeper of the Holies. [Kabadu is apparently also mentioned at Ebla and 𒀭Nuru means "Lamp" (cf. Shapshu's epiphet) with which I partly allude via my interpretation to the divinized Uthkhatu and Kinnaru ("Censer" and "Lyre") and Tirathu ("Young Wine") as this God seems to have a special role in Temple affairs.]

O Loving Majesty ʾEl and the Congregation of the Deities,

Holy Milku of the Earth, Rapỉu the King of Eternity,

Kabadu, the God Who Wields Knowledge, [something of an obscure reference with Kabadu's name sounding similar to the Ugaritic words for the liver (in a divinatory context) and the heart/mind]

Mara-Manamani, [Version of the Akkadian expression “Son of Someone” referring to an unspecified God. Given the context here, I take it to refer to one of the Temple-specific deities or perhaps their class as a whole.]

Baririnu-Ảriyanu Who guards the Sacred Images in their Dwellings, [Baririnu is translated as "The Brilliant One" with Ảriyanu's meaning less clear. I take Him as a Guardian figure somewhat like the Angel stationed at Eden in the Book of Genesis.]

Ảṭaḥanu-Tulayanu, watching over the offerings and libations, [Latter part of 𒀭Ảṭaḥanu means “grace” and Tulayanu may have to do with wine]

Ảtadibu-wa-Ẓuru, [“The One of the Threshold and the Keystone” in my somewhat tortured idiomatic interpretation including the Ugaritic term for the arch of the back which can also denote the summit of a mountain being taken in reference to a Temple Gate]

Qudshu the Blessed, the Fisherman of ʾAsherah,

Thoḫaru-wa-Badu. [The latter part means “song”, so I interpret the former to represent the composition of music]

O Kothar, O Ḫasis, grant us peace, O Ea,

grant us peace, O God of the House, [Title of Baʿal-Hadad as Tutelary Deity of the Ugaritic Royal House]

Tune in - is your sovereign choice, voice, and way of living being honoured and respected - spirit will always offer the alignment of non-interference, the benevolence of free will, and respect and sacredness to all life - and is anything you tune into of such vibration?

Tune in to what is Christ consciousness; Metatronic alignment or not - we are new at ascension and just know those behaving from wounds and ego, will try to make opportunistic offerings to what is not true in benevolence of the greater good but to pull and pluck the sway of humanity -

Why daily self care, self nourishment, self design, powerful self truth is how you will know what your story is; how the dark combats light, fights against it, and will be your triggers - so understand the wounding and stay true to your path, and inner light - it is a profound path of mastery to know how to navigate light - share the wisdoms of light, truth, and higher vibrational integrity - and allow those that choose to play in darkness, will be shifted to play with others that want to play in darkness -

Call in your alliance with light, God, the Heavens and know how to peacefully be a creator of light, offer love and compassion, and see all as children of God - Set intentions for you, how you want to be treated and be the example first - tune into what feels light, feels exciting, what feels creative and liberating - we are here in expansion
