So sad to read that “aces get all the rep” ’cause like, sure, there is more ace rep than aro rep around.

It’s still hard to mention 10 canon ace characters. I could do it, since I specifically seek out all kinds of aspec rep, but most of it is very minor books/comics that no one uninterested in aspec rep would know or ever have heard of (and the more mainstream ones are usually completely ignored by the fandom).

Aces don’t get all the rep, they get some rep. Aros get less than that.

The problem isn’t the ace rep. Let’s not make this a battle of who gets more scraps. Aspec people need more rep, undoubtedly, but getting upset at what little rep we currently get isn’t going to fix anything.

HAPPY ARO-SPEC AWARENESS MONTH!

As a writer on the aromantic spectrum, it's always been important to me to create characters like me that seem to be missing from mainstream media. I struggled a lot with labelling my sexuality because there was nothing to show me it was ok to feel that way. In season one alone, we have 3 canon aro-spec characters who are all very different from each other, and as we get into future seasons I hope to create more! Aromanticism shouldn't just exist in head canons! What's your favorite podcast with aro-spec rep?

Not to break with my normal posts but I'm tired and irritable right now.

As much as I love the Thunderbolts* movie, I think it serves as a great example of how unwelcome aspec people are in fandom spaces and queer spaces on tumblr. Can you imagine if Yelena was canonically a lesbian in the comics and people said "well it's not canon in the movies and you can ship anything fuck off"???? There'd be so much outrage.

Normally I am a live and let ship person but I just think it's very.....telling how eager people are to dismiss aspec identities for the sake of personal fantasies.

And of course, asexual doesn’t mean aromantic, but let's not pretend any of you give a damn about the nuances of aspec identities beyond how you can abuse those nuances to erase and dismiss the legitimate concerns of a marginalized group about what very little representation they have.

Fandom has never cared about representation. And I'm starting to think queer people don't really care about representation either. It just breaks my heart because this movie means a lot to me but every time I go to the tags on here I see tons of people telling me to fuck off for thinking aspec people should have basic respect.
