Twigs and Hearts Season One Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
“You don’t need to fit into a label or a box, especially if they don’t help you.”
“Because if you find the end of your spiralling, you realize you're worthless.”
My first audio drama I found through Tumblr! Such a good soundscape design, truly inspired me to think more about how I design soundscapes and play with sfx. Lots of characters introduced very quickly made it difficult to understand who was who. This led to me needing the transcript to keep up, and I also learned that a lot of sound effects weren’t being described to me what they were, i.e. - a character has their hair tugged and I wouldn’t have known that without reading the transcript as that’s a difficult sound to convey without a character saying “hey! You tugged my hair!”
Still, I looooved Iris and Zenith. The convo between them about their labels made me realize they were the real deal. Can’t wait to listen to season two!
Here's a doodle of Yen I did recently, sharing in celebration of the season 2 release!

What kinds of queer rep do you wish there was more of in media/podcasts?
Pride Month!!
Happy pride month to all! Twigs and Hearts is a queer horror podcast written by queer people! We have a majority queer cast and crew, with a range of trans characters voiced by trans people, plenty of a-spec rep written by a-spec people, queer friendships and relationships including QPRs and polyamory, and so much more,,, The aim has and will always be realistic representation- no token characters.
Random Lore Dump
Happy audio drama Sunday!! Today I took a look at the twigs and hearts tag, something I for some reason have never thought to do before. And I found a surprising amount of posts! Thank you to anyone who has spoken about the show. Not only does it help get the word out, but it gives feedback from an audience's perspective. A lot of people mention the large amount of characters so I thought I'd explain a bit more about why season one is the way it is for fun! I first wrote twigs and hearts when I was 16. It had 5 characters, no Shadowsfield, and a confusing 10 episode layout. After some issues in production, I put it on the back-burner while I learned more about audio engineering and how people spoke. I had been using audio dramas to learn and get comfortable speaking after many years of having selective mutism. I still do, but I can now speak without becoming overstimulated by the sound of my own voice... most of the time. I met Jasper (the voice of Jolly) a few years later and showed them what audio dramas were like behind the scenes. With their help, and the help of the amazing Ryan (voice of REDACTED), we managed to get the show back into a progressing state of production. Jasper created Shadowsfield to allow us to show REDACTED's side, and we incorporated a side story into the main plot. During the revamp I realised I wanted to show a few other characters, such as Dylan, who existed only by mention, and suddenly we had a large scale production. Ignoring Shadowsfield, a lot of the written scenes from 16 year old me stayed in. I'd grown too attached to the original draft and the unhinged production process that came with it. Season one was written jumping between episodes until it became what you now hear. I agree, it is a lot of characters to keep an eye on, and maybe one day I'll go back and rewrite season one so it can live up to the quality of the new seasons. There's more I wish I could explain but I fear it would spoil seasons 2 and 3 so remind me to come back here when we get there. But for now, look out for the in-character re-cap mini episode, coming soon thanks to our lovely season two backers! And we hope you enjoy getting to know our characters a little better starting June 10th when we come back for season two!! Thank you for all the love, - Cry MJ
Fair Folk Audio Fiction Starter Pack
Recs for Audio Dramas featuring the Fair Folk.
The Kingmaker Histories: the Good Neighbors are depicted as just people, while still pulling in bits of the mythology.
Hymns for the Road: the Apocalypse happened, and now humanity is collectively in an abusive relationship with the Folk.
Mabel: Very lyrical and poetic, the Folk are something that almost can't be talked about directly.
Twigs and Hearts: 1950s sitcom plots as a way of capturing the unrealness of the Fair Folk.

Wet Cat Bracket — Round 1
Who is the wetter cat?
Doug Eiffel
Castor Woolf
Propaganda
Doug Eiffel (Wolf 359):
Everything happens to this man. During his 4 seasons, he's been:
Infected by an evil death virus, coughed up blood for three hours, and nearly died
Shot into space twice
Fell into a star and got abducted by aliens
Stranded in space and would have died if not for his captain going to rescue his ass
Taken hostage
Tormented by memories of his daughter who he accidentally injured in a drunk driving accident
Knocked out with gas on multiple occasions
Humiliated in front of his entire crew, also on multiple occasions
During any given Wolf 359 episode, the odds that Eiffel is having a worse day than you are high. Absolute wet cat of a man.
Castor Woolf (Twigs and Hearts):
Castor has never once had two thoughts connected together. He's like if the end stage of flanderisation made a wish to become a real boy and didn't plan any further than that, and he has to keep moving like a shark in case his last remaining braincell catches up.
Zenith Rosen from Twigs and Hearts is loveless (and canonically is aromantic and acespec)
this looks like a podcast, so we couldn't find any pictures?
either way, zenith rosen is loveless!
