It was mid-winter as he stood in front of an apartment complex in the middle of New York; snow covering most parts of the street making the difference between Russia and America seem slightly smaller than usual. Taking a deep breath, he knocked on the door, listening carefully to the sounds coming from inside in the hopes to calm his nerves; but deep down he knew that there was nothing to prepare him for this interaction.
Him and Anna lost contact when he had to return to Russia to deal with family matters, their breakup happening only slightly before. It was like he disappeared from the earth, which essentially wasn’t much different from where he had ended up. It took him a year to solve things, his toxic brother causing much commotion. Peter was bitter about having to leave his daughter behind in the US and Anna hadn’t much left his mind either. The only person he didn’t have to miss was Hayley, who’d come along to support him.
Returning home was a relief. He spent the first month roadtripping with Hayley and his daughter; until Sarah had to return to university and Peter was left to his own devices. Hayley moved across state to help out a pack and without her keeping him from making solid mistakes revolving his ex- he tracked down Annaleigh yet again.
Their relationship was complicated. They had broken up a couple of times before but they seemed to gravitate to each other again and again. And like now, he couldn’t let things go. Tracking her down was an easy task, but the hard part was yet to come. He had no idea how she would feel about his return. He heard her approach, his heart beating loudly in his chest. But he put on a smile and hid his insecurities, almost looking confident when he laid eyes on her. @aspiredlights
“Hey Anna. Long time no see”
