I don’t think aang is her romantic soulmate. I think aang is her slightly endearing but mostly frustratingly stubborn platonic friend who whether you like it or not, largely benefits off of her emotional labor and attachment without compensating her for her hard work and input to help him fulfill his avatar duties. of aang’s many flaws — a lot of it consists of him rejecting katara’s wisdom and natural abilities. without aang, she’s fully capable of standing on her own two feet, discerning friends to foes and being the heartbeat itself of team avatar. yet we’ve seen her time and time again, shunned out of most decision-making only for him to nod at the last minute, telling her she was right all along AFTER all havoc has been wreaked. ship wars aside, what this really is, is a discussion on the kind of relationship dynamic katara deserves as a healer; someone who can protect her outright, support her unconditionally and listen to her while making sure she has everything she needs to be her own person — certainly not what aang shows canonically to be incapable of giving her.
you know who I think would’ve made the perfect person to put aang in his place without becoming his mother figure or inducing a well-deserved paris paloma rage anthem of labor? the one & only, the greatest earthbender in the world. yeah. toph. but that’s a story for another time.
Tyzula is great and all but I think Kazula/Azutara would have a steamy love life.

Could you do a sokkla being happy with their family, please? ❤️
Sorry for the delay, anon! I got really busy finishing a long atla fic! Thanks so much for your prompt, I love writing these two! for this one, I chose to make the "family" zuko, katara, and their niece. I do have ideas for Sokkla's own kids, but that's for a later date!
Send me an atla ship and a prompt! I'll write you a drabble!
“How do I look?” Azula asked, straightening her top and tugging at her skirt for what seemed like the hundredth time.
Sokka looked down at his wife, a wide grin settling on his face. “You look beautiful. And totally ready to go meet our niece.”
“You don’t think she’ll be upset about the color red?”
“I don’t think Katara cares what you wear, love.”
“Not Katara. The baby. Kya.”
Sokka smiled and took her hand gently in his own. “I haven’t known many babies to care about color schemes and outfit coordination.”
“Well, I haven’t really known many babies. So I just want to be sure.”
“Wait, you’ve met a baby before, right?”
“Of course I have,” Azula snapped. “But only when they were brought before the Fire Lord. And those were usually a bit older.”
Sokka chuckled to himself. “Kya is going to love you. Especially when she sees the way you can bend.”
“Are you sure?”
“Of cours—”
“Because everything has to be perfect, Sokka. I want to be a good aunt.”
“You will be,” Sokka said, rubbing small circles against the back of her hand. “And not just because of your excellent fashion sense.”
“How do you know?”
“Because you’ll love her. And because you’re going to try really, really hard. Being a good aunt just means loving them and trying your best.” He paused, tapping his chin thoughtfully, “And maybe annoying Zuko by taking her cliff diving when she’s way too young.”
When they arrived at the hospital, one of the healers led them through a series of hallways until they came to a room, tucked away near the back of the hospital, with two kyoshi warriors standing guard outside of it. Both nodded greetings to Azula and Sokka before they stepped to the side and let them pass through into the room.
Katara was laid up in bed, beaming at the small bundle pressed against her chest. That small bundle, Azula realized, was her niece. Beside the bed, Zuko watched his wife and their daughter, with an exhausted smile that told Azula he hadn’t slept in days and that he’d probably never been happier.
Azula watched her niece closely as she slept peacefully in Katara’s arms. She had dark, lovely skin and a cute, button nose that matched her mother's. But her eyes were a deep amber that Azula would recognize anywhere.
“Do you want to hold her?” Katara asked, smiling warmly at Azula.
Azula stood frozen to the spot, the knot in her throat making speaking impossible. Her palms felt too warm. Everything felt too warm, even for a firebender.
Carefully, so very carefully, Sokka placed his hand on the small of her back, rubbing soothingly against her soft skin. Bolstered by his presence and his touch, Azula gave a small nod. Katara sat up, holding her daughter toward Azula. “Kya, this is your aunt, Azula. She’s a princess like you and a mighty firebender.”
Years ago, Azula remembered when her mighty fire was turned against Katara. The memory washed over her, and all at once she couldn’t believe that she was here: standing beside her husband, whose strong hands rubbed the lightest circles against her back, holding her niece, while Katara complemented her bending.
The room became a blur as first one tear, then another, slipped down her face. Katara and Zuko were gracious enough to turn away. Sokka leaned down, gently pressing his lips behind Azula’s ear.
“I love you so much,” he whispered. “I’m so glad we’re here.”
Kya chose that moment to wake up. Azula looked down, amber eyes reflected back at her. They stared at each other for a second. Then, Kya broke into a tiny smile that could have melted ice better than Azula’s blue flames.
Sokka didn’t have the heart to tell her that Kya had just filled her diaper.
katara: babe you should cut your nails
azula: what, why? then i won't be able to use them as a weapon anymore
azula:
azula: oh wait nvm i just realized what you meant
sukitara nation come get your crumbs
Azula: Being gay is not a choice. *holds Ty Lee’s hand* It’s a game and we’re winning!
