(Continuing from the previous text)
"Ever since I can remember, I have been plagued by auditory hallucinations.I have been hearing a voice that might not exist and whose exact sources I cannot determine. A weathered and mysterious voice. That, or rather those voices, guided me, telling me exactly what everything around me was and how I should face it.However, when I wanted to ask that voice about something I really wanted to know, such as who I am and who it is,it fell silent.I could sense that it wanted to help me, but in fact it also brought me immense fear. Because I had no way of knowing who was telling me all this, as a young child, I mistook the fish around me for the source of sound. But when I realized my ability to command marine life, I understood that fish cannot form language. At most, they can express their instincts through simple neural signals in their brains or repeat people's language. This tearing fact aroused my fear of fish schools, especially after they began to "relay" people's prejudices against me to me. It was not until Arthur's appearance that all this changed. He was the first person to unconditionally accept me and share my joys and sorrows with him. He taught me everything about being a person and a hero. Even though I later had some conflicts with him, I still sincerely thanked him from the bottom of my heart for everything he had done for me. "
The mysterious voice that has always been in Garth's mind belongs to Atlan.Atlan is the biological father of Arthur (Aquaman) and Orm (Ocean Master), a powerful wizard, and also the Prince of Atlantis many years ago.Arthur's blond hair was inherited from him, a trait traditionally associated with Curse of Kordax. Atlan was also one of the first senior Atlanteans to set foot on land to explore the terrestrial world in modern times, but his revelation of the appearance of the terrestrial world aroused the vigilance of the king at that time. There is a reason why we don't communicate with those on land, the king said.Once they know of our existence, they will surely regard us as a threat to the survival of their own civilization and thus be even more disadvantageous to us.The pollution they have caused to the upper sea area in the past has already been extremely disgusting. We cannot simply tolerate it,we should take the initiative. Regardless of everything, Atlan single-handedly prevented the war between Atlantis and the countries along the Mediterranean coast, but he himself dissipated like a bubble before his underwater compatriots. He maintained his existence in the form of a ghost for a long time after his death, silently observing everything in the sea realm. He noticed Arthur and also Garth. He wanted to take the latter away, but in the absence of a physical entity, he could do nothing. He could only communicate with the child frequently through telepathy, guiding, instructing and training him like a novice tutorial in a game, and teaching him some necessary common sense to prevent him from irreversibly going feral due to missing the language development period. When Garth grew up after "The First Flow of Time", by some chance and fatal opportunity (this part is different from the original plot and may be further conceived in the future), he heard that familiar voice again, thoroughly learned the truth about his childhood auditory hallucinations from Atlan, and discovered his true potential. Garth, who had received spell training from Atlan, returned to the sea realm under the name Tempest and emerged victorious in the decisive battle against Slizzath, once and for all resolving the crisis of Idyllist.
(The original DC work provides a very vague account of Garth's life from his abandonment until he met Arthur, merely stating that he "miraculously survived". Some stories, although they mention or imply that the person who cared for and raised him was Atlan, offer no further detailed description. Therefore, I can only make as reasonable assumptions and supplements as possible in my headcanon.)
i don’t think that R F Kuang “simply” created magic China, Magic Taiwan, Magic Japan, Magic England and Magic Mongolia
Don’t get me wrong she used the historical events of these countries but i think there is a bit of mixing of cultures - specifically for the Speerlies.
There are small clues that Speer (while representing the Taiwan) is also heavily inspired by South Asia. The obvious one is the skin tones of the Speerlies being much darker than most Taiwanese and also because in the book Bodhidharma, who was a real Indian person who brought Buddhism from India to China, supposedly brought religion to Nikan from the South-East
Not south-west. South-east. (if you check the books map this aligns with Speer)
R F Kuang is far too knowledgeable about history and has far too good of an editor for this mistake to make it in without purpose.
I know the story is meant to solely be about East Asia, but i’m genuinely considering Speer being a mix of Taiwan and South Asian countries to show the racism of China against other Asians in general to be real
