Unwanted visit to Wayne Manor.
Alfred Pennyworth went to check who was knocking at the door.
And it wouldn't have seemed strange to anyone, if it hadn't been for the fact that it had been more than 15 minutes and he still hadn't returned to ask them to sit in the main dining room to serve dinner, which was making them anxious that something bad was happening at that moment. .
But, just before someone ran to the door, the family's old butler entered the room. His face, although serious, denoted a mixture of several emotions, of which sadness was the one on the rise.
- Master Bruce, young masters.- He addressed those present with gravity.- I am afraid to announce that, before we go to the dining room, a visitor has arrived, and that perhaps his presence is not to your complete liking.-
They didn't have the opportunity to question it, when the visitor appeared before them, causing everyone present to fall silent in surprise. At a relevant distance was Damian Head.
- Mr. Wayne.- He greeted dryly.- Grayson, Todd, Drake, Brown, Thomas, Cain, Gordon.-
No one responded because no one knew what to say. It had been five years since he had demanded to be left out of the family, and now he appeared that night as if he had never left in the first place. Without letting them have any idea of what he had done with his life, and the reasons that pushed him to be there.
- What the hell are you doing here? - Apparently, discomfort and sadness were not the only feelings that surfaced in those moments.
- I have come for a personal matter, Drake.- He answered without even flinching.- One that requires me to speak with you, especially with Mr. Wayne.-
After a few moments, the head of the family decided to speak.
- And what could this personal matter be for you to be here now? - He crossed his arms. - You appear after five years, after you renounced the family, our family. And just like if nothing happened, you come to talk to us? I welcomed you, I gave you a home, an education, you never lacked food, all your needs were taken care of. And what did you do? Tell me, how did you pay for all that, Damian?-
The 21-year-old did not respond. Nothing that came out of his mouth would achieve the purpose with which he had appeared at his former family's mansion. He was about to turn around and leave, if it weren't for the old butler speaking up.
- I believe, Master Bruce, that you are not in the position to interrogate my guest tonight. - Everyone, except Damian, turned to look at Alfred, who was not bothered by the incredulous looks he was receiving. - Mainly because the matter of young Head is very important, and he does not have enough time to waste time arguing non-stop.-
He stared at him, encouraging him to express what he had to say. Damian closed his eyes for a moment, and after taking a deep sigh, opened them and said with a determined voice.
- Thank you, Alfred.- He thanked him with a slight bow of his head, and continued.- I know that I am not in a position to even appear here, much less be heard.- He closed his eyes again and clenched his fists with force, trying to calm down.- But, Alfred is right, I don't have time to explain my sudden intrusion into your lives.- He lowered his gaze, and turned around, facing the main door.- It's better. .. see it for yourselves. And ... I ...-
He wiped away a couple of tears that ran from his green eyes.
- I will be at Gotham General Hospital.- He announced to them.- There I will be able to explain to you in great detail. Sorry... I'm sorry.-
Without saying more or seeing them again, he headed for the exit, passing through the enormous doors that would separate them once again.
The atmosphere had not only become tense, but there were echoes of many things that could not be said in that brief meeting; words full of anger, reproach, sadness, melancholy, longing, a little tranquility, and above all, regret.
No one knew what to do or say, until Pennyworth put their coats in their hands.
- You better hurry up, young masters, if you ever want to know what young Damian needs to talk to you about.-
Most of them quickly got ready to leave, thanks to the subtle order of the old butler, also because they were intrigued by what was so worrying at that moment for the one who was once the youngest of the family, to swallow his great pride and look for them.
Only Bruce Wayne was the only one who had not moved from his seat, thinking about various possibilities, and most of them in a negative way. What was so urgent that, after five years, Damian was back? What had he done now?
- Bruce, aren't you planning on going to the hospital to see Dami?-
Everyone stared at them, waiting for their decision, so he rubbed his eyes tiredly.
- I don't think I'm ready for this.- He put his hands together, and rested his chin on them.- It's been five years since he cut ties with us, and I'm not sure I want to know what he wants to show us at the hospital.-
- Nonsense.- Said Alfred, who approached the older Wayne, took the jacket from his hands and made him stand up.- You're going to shut that big mouth of yours, Bruce, so shut up once and for all, and just this once, listen.-
He adjusted the jacket over his shoulders as he pushed him toward the door.
- Your son, and yes, YOUR SON, although not legally anymore, traveled from the other half of the country to be able to talk to you, because he needs you urgently in the hospital, and I am not going to allow any of you arrived too late. So, please, walk.-
There was no one to refute him, because he was the one in charge in that house.
