Introducing Audiotool 3.0
Audiotool 3.0: The Multiplayer DAW Powering Creator-Built Instruments, Tools, and Workflows on Any Device
The fully rebuilt DAW and new open-source SDK power real-time collaboration and customization, giving creators the freedom to shape the platform around their music.
Audiotool is a browser-based music production and social platform built to make collaborative music creation accessible to anyone, anywhere. Users rely on the online DAW to create, share, and connect around their music, spanning musicians, producers, developers, educators, and students worldwide.
Audiotool is announcing Audiotool 3.0, a ground-up rebuild of its browser-based DAW, which brings real-time multiplayer music creation to web browsers and tablets, with native mobile versions coming soon. Launching publicly on July 8, 2026, the new version also incorporates Audiotool NEXUS, an open-source SDK that lets musicians and developers build instruments, apps, and AI-connected tools directly into the platform.
Digital music production has always been more collaborative in spirit than in practice. Creators want to work together, but traditional tools often get in the way: different devices, incompatible plugins, missing files, and workflows that stop the moment a collaborator does not own the right software.
Audiotool has been working to solve that problem longer than almost anyone. In 2010, it launched one of the first online digital audio workstations, running in Flash. In 2017, it introduced a fully featured DAW in HTML5. Now, with Audiotool 3.0, the company has rebuilt its platform from the ground up to make real-time, cross-device collaboration feel as natural as the way creators already work, play, and communicate online.
Audiotool 3.0 was built for real-time collaboration with the lowest latency of any online music tool. And anyone can join in from whatever device they have on hand, making Audiotool a truly cross-platform DAW. For Audiotool's large community of users crossing over from gaming, this is familiar territory: meet up with your squad to create, or drop in to collab with strangers. Music creation becomes genuinely multiplayer.
Audiotool's multiyear partnership with the Esports World Cup, as well as its new partnership with Esports Nations Cup, reflects that overlap between gaming, music, and online creative communities, where young creators increasingly make tracks together long before they ever identify as music producers. Lowering the barrier to entry doesn’t lower the ceiling. It raises the floor.
“Music's past was highly social. So is music's future,” said Andreas Jacobi, co-founder and CEO of Audiotool. “We reimagined Audiotool from the ground up to serve that future and help music break away from today's fragmented, gated production ecosystem.”
DAWs ship with fixed tools. Audiotool 3.0 provides ways to build these tools. That shift is powered by Audiotool NEXUS, an open-source SDK that opens the platform to a new generation of developer and creator-designed tools. With NEXUS, users can build a wide range of tools: from instruments and effects, to visualizers, music games, educational content, and hardware-connected apps. NEXUS is AI-enabled, using MCP and Context I/O to connect a creator's preferred LLM to Audiotool. The result is a creative environment that is no longer static. Instead of being limited to the tools that ship in the box, creators can shape the platform around the music they want to make, the collaborators they work with, and the creative workflows they imagine.
"Think Google Docs meets a creative sandbox like Fortnite or Minecraft. The DAW becomes a platform where creators can build, experiment, and make music together,” said Jacobi. "And with low- and no-code development tools, people who never saw themselves as developers are bringing entirely new perspectives to how music is created. The next generation of music tools will be shaped by the people actually making the music."
Established music technology companies are invited to bring their products to this new generation of creators through NEXUS. Launch partners include Splice, Ujam, BandM8, and Fraunhofer, Europe's largest organization for applied research. From sample libraries to streaming audio standards to generative music tools, Audiotool serves as the open layer where they can all connect. A full partner list is available at audiotool.com.
“I’ve spent most of my life in studios, and the thing that got in the way of creativity was almost never the people in the room. It was the software,” said Audiotool co-founder and producer Daniel Rowland. “Audiotool 3.0 takes that wall down. People can finally create together using any device, anywhere, and we’re giving them a way to build the tools tomorrow’s music will need.”
Through Audiotool 3.0 and Audiotool NEXUS, the platform is expanding from an online DAW into an open environment for real-time collaboration, connected creative tools, and the next generation of music-making workflows.
That future is already taking shape. Musicians and developers are building with NEXUS now as part of Audiotool's Let's Build! Hackathon series, running through August 2026. More information about the virtual and in-person events is available at audiotool.com/LetsBuild.
