This was some of the food that i made friday night for my birthday dinner. Venison backstrap that i smoked with applewood then cooked with apples and black walnuts, hoe cakes made with wild millet, and eggs, green onion and garlic from the garden, and an apple pie with a crust made out of pecan pie. There had also been turnip greens and corn, and green beans cooked in a venison-broth reduction, but none of the vegetables lasted long enough to be in the picture. Sugar/spices/butter was from the store (probably cost most of a dollar), everything else I hunted, gathered, or grew in the garden. . .
