Honestly, mood. The fandom calls him a bunch of things but I never could get behind Gussie or Augie personally so that's my boy Gus. I could definitely see some twerp like Brutus calling him Gussie just to annoy him, tho. That might eventually become canon, lmao

I was thinking about Gus and my HC that he refuses to get a dog post-win bc he's afraid Snow would target him/her first but then I thought about how many kids probably already had dogs and fucking die in the arena?!

Do you headcanons for Augustus? You seem to be a district 1 expert

I have this post with quite a few others but here are some more:

While his actual home life (just him and his ailing single father) was very lowkey, he had it absolutely rough in the Academy. Very abusive coaches, bullied unendingly until he reached puberty (and bulked up), ostracized by his non-Career neighbors back before he lived in the Academy dorms fulltime, etc. This turned him into a very careful, apologetic, try-hard. He'll apologize to the thing he broke a toe stubbing and will refuse any medical attention before he lets himself cry, even in private. Worst part, he knows it's super unhealthy but it's now so engrained into him that only Penny, and only when she's already crying herself, can get some tears out of him.

Huge animal nerd. Or at least very imaginitive in his animal 'knowledge.' He'll bullshit an entire backstory (dare I say headcanon?) about the animals around him before he ever admits that he doesn't know what species of bird that is in the windowsil type guy. Loves animals, always wanted a dog, never got one. And then once he became a Victor, never allowed himself a dog bc he knew that would be the first thing Snow would target if he ever got in trouble which he couldn't stand.

He became pretty distantly-close to Midas Heeledwell (12th Games) who had enough pets for all of Panem. It might have been a very superficial thing but Gus was always over playing cards, helping the old guy clean up, etc just to hang around the absolute zoo of a house that Midas kept. This got especially frequent after Gus' father, Faustine, passed. Gus both wanted to have that father figure and the pets back in his life and found them in Midas who might have been dementia-ed enough to never question his presence.

Also, I don't know if I can be a District 1 Expert when he we get fuck all in canon about them but I will happily take: D1 Simp, even being ace/aro myself XD I love my D1 babiesss

You know who I could see doing this. Gus, to Cashmere and Gloss. Man's loves animals but doesn't quite get that some people might like them as much, let alone surprise animals. He'd absolutely release a rabbit mutt that whistles into their house without warning and then genuinely wonder why they don't want to keep 'Birdie the Wabbit' ya know?

Gloss - sour (he and Silk used to steal sour candies together)

Rhubae - salty (but she won't turn down the others)

Temper - salty (she and Rhubae bonded hard over that, among other things)

Pleur - sweet (but she still eats pickles in her ice-cream since her last pregnancy)

Gus - salty (/savory, but he's not picky)

Gemaline - spicy (that counts in her mind, at least)

District 2

Enoabria - no preference (preferences are for losers, apparently)

Penny - salty (but mostly bc of Gus, she really has no preference)

Brutus - spicy (he can't be out-done by Gem, dammit!)

Cato - sweet (but he learns to love spice for Gem)

Clove - salty

Icilia - sour (not at all related to her 'bitter' persona, tho)

District 3

Beetee - anything but sweet (he really hates too-sweet things)

Wiress - sweet (the woman would finish a gallon of honey if you let her)

District 4

Finnick - salty (reminds him of the ocean)

Annie - sweet (with a kick is great, too, tho!)

Mags - sweet (reminds her of her husband, Adrien's, baking)

Trinks - sweet (her favorite drugs are the ones 'hidden' in candies)

Hudson - spicy (most of his other senses are now dulled so, fuck it)

Blight - salty (man loves 'bitter salt' like pickles, especially)

Johanna - sweet (like her mama's cooking/baking)

Cecilia - sweet (her kids love it too)

Hera Ella - salty (never got much sweet so she never grew to like it)

Lennox - salty (man's will finish a livestock salt-lick if you let him) (don't let him)
