"Autism traits that are actually advantages-" Hey guys did you know that the problem with eugenics and ableism is the act of assigning different degrees of worth and moral value to different people and abilities and not that we were simply attacking the "wrong" group?
i was thinking yesterday how much upkeep we have to do just to exist and stay (relatively) healthy etc (wash clothes, fold said washing, wash bedding, brush teeth, wash hair, cut finger/toenails, other grooming tasks, wash bedding, wash hairbrushes!!, wash makeup brushes/tools, wash various electric shavers (diff parts of body), clean earbuds, clean dishes, various other cleaning chores, make meals, etc etc etc
Not to exhaust/overwhelm you all but more being like, damn no wonder we are not ok
i can't believe we're supposed to just... keep up with all that the rest of our lives, on top of scrambling to somehow pay the bills and stay housed? Like, where does anyone even find the time/energy to be on top of it all all the time
There is always at least five things or more that i'm not managing to stay on top of, and I seem to be always having to apologise for something I've not done. Just livin in constant burnout. So like yeah you have permission to be exhausted/not ok and eff anyone who wrongly asserts that you're "lazy" or whatever else.
can I have a schizautistic/schizoautist flag that is more simple yet general?
Three different Schizautistic/Schizoautist flags
The first one is a combination of this autism and this schizospec flag, also here's a different combination of those same flag in a different style made by someone else. The second is a combination of this autism and this schizospec flag. The third is a simplified/redesigned version of this schizautistic flag.
If you tried to get a autism diagnosis or a schizophrenia diagnosis and a professional has told you that you can have neither, they're wrong.
Here is a direct quote from the dsm 5:
"F. If there is a history of autism spectrum disorder or a communication disorder of childhood onset, the additional diagnosis of schizophrenia is made only if prominent delusions or hallucinations, in addition to the other required symptoms of schizophrenia, are also present for at least 1 month (or less if successfully treated)"
(I know not every country uses the DSM - 5. I've looked into the ICD 11 and it has not mentions about Autism in the Schizophrenia category aka its not saying you can't have both)
I've seen some people on here say they've been told they can't be diagnosed with both and this is completely wrong. Schizophrenia and Autism are often linked together.
" According to literature, up to 34.8% of the patients with a diagnosis of ASD can show psychotic symptoms and, similarly, autistic traits have been reported in schizophrenia patients (SCZ) in a percentage ranging between 3.6 and 60% "
There is strong evidence for the existence of a high comorbidity between autism and psychosis with percentages reaching up to 34. 8% and sev
" a large overlap between schizophrenia and ASD, and point to the need to expand the understanding of the potential mediating mechanisms of this co-occurrence "
Although the co-occurrence of autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and schizophrenia have been previously reported, the scope and magnitude of t
" Researchers have long suspected that autism and schizophrenia are related. The two conditions have overlapping traits, including sensory-processing problems and social difficulties, and they share gene-expression patterns in brain tissue. But studies of the prevalence of each condition among people diagnosed with the other have yielded inconsistent results.
Collating data from 11 studies, the new analysis found that schizophrenia is 3.6 times as common in individuals with autism as in controls. Autism likewise occurs more often in people with schizophrenia than in the general population"
Autism and schizophrenia co-occur significantly more often than would be expected by chance, according to an analysis of nearly 2 million pe
Those are articles I found in a quick search.
Do NOT let uneducated professionals tell you you can't have both if you exhibit both disorders.
I kinda want to undertake a really ambitious research project about the neuroscience of autism, ADHD and schizophrenia for fun. Especially about hyperconnectivity, schizotypy, brain networks and the hippocampus-striatum-VTA loop I wrote about in my Bachelor's thesis.
Obviously just by reading research papers, provided I can get access to them. Luckily I have no shame emailing researchers if I have to lol.
Like "go exercise, you'll feel so much better once you move your body" doesn't apply to a lot of physically disabled people. And "just force yourself to socialize, you will have fun once you're there" doesn't apply to a lot of autistic people. And "your intuition will always tell you the truth" doesn't apply to a lot of psychotic people. And so on. And I'm not saying that this means that you can't or shouldn't promote these things, but they aren't universal solutions for everyone
Far too much talk about how "dangerous" psychotic/schizophrenic people are. Far too little talk about how easy it can be for an abuser to take advantage of a person who is already labeled as "crazy". We're usually among the victims - not the perpetrators.
Actually sometimes when you're disabled, forcing the "healthy" standard solution isn't actually going to improve your quality of life! Like if you have severe sensory processing issues, then forcing yourself to eat food that makes you vomit is unlikely to improve your quality of life. And if you're touch averse to the point of pain, cuddling is very unlikely to improve your mood. And if being social always exhausts you completely, then forcing yourself to go out every weekend is unlikely to actually make your life any happier. So can we please stop acting like universal solutions are a real thing?!
