An absolutely wonderful collection of piano chamber music from Franz Joseph Haydn, the genius responsible for shaping the Classical Era.
Haydn’s brilliant symphonies from the Sturm und Drang era, a precursor to the later Classical Period. I used to think the Classical Period occurred right after the Baroque, not realising how there was a transition period, greatly enriched by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, as well as composers such as Christoph Willibald Gluck. Haydn, one of the fathers of the Classical era, composed in the Sturm und Drang style for a time. I think the best symphony here is the Farewell symphony, which he composed in protest after being prevented from leaving his post. I should listen to more Haydn in future.
