My dear friend Nicole @wannabemage and I went to see Sarah J Mass in Nashville and it was a religious experience. I love seeing authors, I have seen a few over the last few years and all have been amazing. Mass was a little different because I did not actually get to speak with her but simply listening to her talk was amazing. She is extremely smart and personable and easy to listen to.
Prior to seeing her I had only read A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury (I know, I'm woefully behind). But even without having the background of Throne of Glass I really enjoyed hearing about Choal (it's Kay-All, like chaos but with an 'L') and I truly cannot wait to start the series.
As with all authors Mass had some writing advice and some writing stories, of these the one that stuck the most with me was the concept of writing for you and not others. Or at least to write to show what you can do, not just to satisfy others. Something I really struggle with is writing so tumblr will love it, and with the way that YA twitter is people often get caught up in making their books perfect and flawless. That is not what writing is. Writing is a story in you that has to be free. Writing is characters trapped behind your eyes yelling and scrabbling to get out and tell their story. When you have a story you need to share don't get caught up on making all your characters or your setting or even your plot perfect for everyone. Make your plot perfect for your characters, get to know the people you are writing, everything will fall into place after that.
On a less preachy note, Mass shared the story of meeting her husband which was a YA noel come true. Her attachment to Chaol and Yrene was something that plucks at your heartstrings and honestly I will never be able to hate Chaol after hearing her talk about him. She also talked a little bit about the novellas she would be working on for ACOTAR and kids let me tell you smut is coming! I know Nicole rolled her eyes but I'll be damned if I'm not excited as hell for all the new couples we get to hear about.
I can't wait to yell at y'all about how I feel about Throne of Glass and ACOWAR!
So I'm at the library just doing my job and I meet a wild author that has books in the library?? Abd she walks up to me and starts talking to me out of nowhere??? I just feel kinda honored ngl

How To Train Your Dragon: Meeting Cressida Cowell
How To Train Your Dragon: Meeting Cressida Cowell
How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell was first published in 2003. In 2003, I was in the upper years of primary school and that meant I was the target audience for How to Train Your Dragon. I loved it. I must have done – I still remember the book over a decade later. It’s about Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, “the greatest Viking Hero that ever lived” but focusing on “when he was a very…
