I loved the multiple little moments in awtwb where Rainbow like fully addressed like fan discourse (is that the even word I want here??) like confirming Baz having chest hair and the aside about Penny and purple hair etc, it was so funny to me. Just like those moments that if you’d never been in the fandom wouldn’t mean anything but made me put down the book for a moment in order to process the fact that it was in there.

Random thoughts about Any Way the Wind Blows:

The fact that Simon meets his grandmother without either of them knowing she’s his grandmother and yet she immediately hugs him and feeds him cake. That literally made me scream

I love Shepard (from Omaha). I love how into Penny he is. I love that what gets him out of trouble with the demon is… the trouble he got in with other magical creatures. I love him.

I admit I was kind of hoping for aroace Agatha but I love Agatha/Niamh. Overall I loved Agatha’s storyline and how it was mostly separate from the main plot.

I expected this book to get more into vampirism but tbh I’m glad that it didn’t because I just… don’t care about that much. All I want is for Baz to be able to grow old with Simon and I got that so I’m happy.

I also expected Simon’s parentage to be addressed in more depth. It felt kind of tacked to the end and I wish we got to see more of how he deals with it. But I guess that’s what fic is for

That said, I loved that he found out thanks to a sword. I love that he now has a sword that comes from his mother’s family. Such a perfect conclusion

I cannot overstate how much it means to me that Simon’s sexuality remained unlabelled. Just. I know it’s probably disappointing for a lot of people but that whole conversation was everything to me. Labels should be helpful. If they aren’t, you don’t have to use one. You can just be you. Without having to find a descriptor for it.

I adore Simon and I get that it was the trauma but the fact that it didn’t really occur to him to fully try in the relationship until Baz said that he was the only thing Simon ever gave up on absolutely kills me. Like SIMON PLEASE THINK FOR ONCE YOU LOVE HIM

AWTWB SPOILERS - Define “cockblocking”

Okay, so there’s this part in AWTWB where Simon says that he feels like he’s been cockblocking Penny, because as soon as he leaves her alone, Penny and Shepard get together. The reason this made me laugh is because Penny was dating Micah almost right up until she met Shepard, which Simon seems to have forgotten. I think for Penny, having a boyfriend was probably more of a cockblock than Simon himself. I just found that part amusing and wanted to share.

The exact quote is:
