Ok so given that I’ve got shit for not adequately voicing the possibility of Azazel!Dean on my blog and misreading Alastair in a random ask and well I’ve said so many times recently that I’m not speculating about not!Dean anymore because it just depends they go blatant or left field and this is my most likely left field idea that makes the most sense but it’s still left field so i hadn’t shared it in detail, well here goes.

I’m not saying this is likely just well it’s a good strong option for a left field option.

In the AU consider:

- Azazel couldn’t demon blood up sam as he wasn’t born after John died but Mary was already pregnant similar to 5x13. Which is also the ep John says yes to Michael in to save Mary.

- Azazel posessed Dean a while back. Perhaps led to Mary’s death.

- Cas lying / telling half the truth about the boys not being born because it’s too painful to say Dean was and is now lost therefore leading to the whole half truths miscommunication trope fest of importance this season.

- Our Mary facing the person she fears most, Azazel inside one of the people she loves most, Dean (or John this is why I also have an Azazel!John idea because that imo would be epic for all of them for similar reasons but I won’t go into that here).

- Our Dean then either facing Azazel!John in Matt Cohen’s body (imo makes most sense for Dean’s arc) or himself as Azazel. Azazel being the one who “stole Sam’s childhood” in a way and corrupted him. Dean as Sam’s parent. There’s so many ways this could work brilliantly re the codependency which is on its way out and closure.

- Remember how Bobby was able to take control of his body enough to stab himself to exorcise a demon when someone he loved and who loved him got through to him? Yeah.

So yeah I might make throwaway comments about Azazel!John or my crack demon!john!dean theory or Azazel!Dean but I’m not like wow there’s such foreshadowing because there isn’t really or anyway not as much blatant stuff. Michael is the blatant one. It’s just, in Dabb era? The show is GOOD. The show is CLEVER.

It’s a case of if Dabb is in control it’ll not be the obvious Michael posession imo, it’ll be one of these and yeah my favourite option is Azazel!John obviously for the metaphorical reasons for Dean facing him but idk how that works out for Dean being someone else unless he lets Azazel possess him to save John (for Mary because he knows what it’s like to lose someone you love and that’s a whole other can of yes please).

If Bucklemming are in control of the plot arc as they have been most of the season then probably just Michael as blatantly foreshadowed. And that works because Dean is doing it for everyone, for his whole family and the world and he’s increasingly desperate this season to save the others who keep dying on him. He wants to protect Sam and Cas in particular from Lucifer too. If Michael is wearing John’s face for some reason when he does it then perfect.

Thinking about Azazel's visits to Sam always happening from Halloween through Nov 2.

And this is the real reason Sam developed an aversion to Halloween, although he doesn't really remember.

Maybe the story in Mint Condition is what Sam has made himself believe.
