Do you happen to have any opinions (or know anyone who does) about which 3 Musketeers audiobook is the best? I feel like asking the fandom is a more reliable option than wading through reviews.

Hello ! The only audiobook version I've listened to is on audible and is read by Bernard Bollet (for both T3M and 20YA). It's in French, and I've never listened to an English translation, but for what it's worth I really liked it. I thought it let distinct characterizations shine through and retained a lot of the comedic tone without being over the top or goofy. My reply won't very useful to those hoping to compare versions, especially english readers, but if others have recommendations and opinions on the matter please comment here so that newcomers can sift through replies and get an idea ! Hopefully someone more knowledgable in the area of audiobooks will come around and save the day. Cheers !

so i’ve started watching ugly betty with my bff (american vers) and this is gonna sound absolutely insane but i was SO shocked when i realized it’s just a regular quirky drama 🫢 all my life i somehow was under the impression the hook of the show was that betty was like. a psychic or something?? like as a kid i would see the commercials and think oh she’s so gorgeous there’s no way her being “ugly” is the whole plot- there’s gotta be more to it like she’s receiving prophetic visions or smth😅

what you describe literally sounds like something they would have done. like, im surprised that didn't happen. ive only seen 5 eps of ugly betty and its....fine.

the original is about a morally grey but ultimately kind, female protagonist who falls in love with her boss and later commits financial fraud. and also, yes, she's 'ugly' by society standards but eventually she builds her self esteem and becomes a better, stronger version of herself.

What are your top 3 "facts" about ancient rome that are so ridiculously wrong but for some reason keep circulating?

oh god there are a LOT but let’s see...here’s what i’ve got off the top of my head

1. the idea that a vomitorium was a place where rich people went to puke up their dinner...like ok. first of all that was not as widely done as people think it was. second a vomitorium is just a passageway in a theater and isn’t a widely-used term in ancient rome anyway

2. anytime i see anything about how the bisexuality was a “default” for the romans or that being gay was widely accepted in ancient rome i really want to tear my hair out. like that is such a generalization and not even a particularly accurate one?

3. if i have to see one more person claiming that livia poisoned augustus without doing any sort of critical thinking. i will explode

Im half-asleep so forgive me if this sounds nonsensical but Do u think he [Odysseus] re-covers himself with the poem out of a sense of necessity or need? 🤔 like... Does he go back because it is ~The Story~ and as the title character must follow the lines to its inevitable end? Or does he wrap it around him like a security blanket- because after all, it is His Story too???

i don’t know!!! but i think he does fully escape in that he doesn’t have to go back, the poem itself isn’t pulling him out of folklore and back into epic, but he does go. he doesn’t have to play it out to the end, the theology of the odyssey is very different from that of the iliad-- fate (both divine and narrative) is far less fixed and certain things and people can be dispensed with-- but he does. much as the odyssey and odysseus as a character operate on what achilles says in the underworld, that it’s better to be a farmer among the living than to give one’s life to glory, i don’t think odysseus truly believes it.
