I’m so normal about them. And so normal about the post I saw comparing their dynamics if Gabe had lived. So normal.

my tomorrow, jason/peter everybody lives au, ~6.5k
sometimes youtube hurts your feelings with sad songs from bare: a pop opera reunion concerts, and you ask yourself: what if jason survived but he and peter didn't reunite until their 25 year high school reunion?
an excerpt:
He aches for Jason in a thousand ways; he aches for the boy he was, for the man he almost wasn't, for the man he still isn't, for the man he's managed to be. Without knowing what he's trying to accomplish, Peter walks himself sideways, pulling his swing closer to Jason's, until he can reach out to touch the back of his hand.
He only means to comfort, a friendly squeeze, if he and Jason can be friendly, if that's what you call them after all these years. It's Jason who shudders at the touch, whose eyes flicker shut, who turns his palm up to catch Peter's in his. Peter feels frozen in this moment, watching Jason cradle his hand, watching him cover his hand with his other hand, to bring the back of Peter's hands to his lips, to press a fragile kiss there.
"Have not saints lips," Jason whispers, "and holy palmers too?"
Peter's heart nearly stops in his chest. "Ay, pilgrim. Lips that they must use in prayer."
Jason doesn't relinquish his hand; he pulls it into his chest, pressing Peter's hand against his heart, and his face, when he looks at him, is wide open and desperate. "Oh then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do; they pray--grant thou, lest faith turn to despair."
Somehow, they've both leaned closer, their knees bumping together, the swings straining to go back to where they belong, but they're pulling too hard, pressing closer together, until their foreheads are touching, until their noses are just brushing, and Peter's looking down at their hands, clasped together against Jason's chest.
"Finally remembered my line," Jason breathes, and it's Peter's turn for a broken, watery sound. "You still know all of them."
They're speaking into each other's space, voices more vibrations than anything, sound waves barely breaching the distance. "I teach English and theater. What's your excuse?"
Impossibly, Jason's hand clutches him tighter. "I never forgot one second of this." Peter hitches a breath, or does he choke back a sob? He squeezes his eyes shut, feeling the tears welling up there. "Not one second."

saw a production of bare recently and jason and matt switched lines during auditions, so JASON said “there lies more peril in thine eyes than twenty of their swords” and MATT said “look thou but sweet and i am proof against their enmity” and i am losing my mind over it
it’s been years since i’ve even thought about bare: a pop opera but i relistened to the soundtrack recently and genuinely all of us that could relate to Role of a Lifetime and See Me deserve financial compensation
my bapo hot takes/unpopular opinions*
*these might not actually be all that hot or unpopular, it’s been a while since i interacted with the fandom
arguing about whether the characters were “good” or “evil” or “morally grey” is useless and completely misses the whole point of the musical
bare is a great musical, but should never go more mainstream than off-broadway. this ain’t broadway material
i understand trying to find a actor who is both plus size and plays cello may be difficult, but smaller theaters that are putting on bare should put priority on nadia’s actor being fat
sister chantelle’s character is sort of flat and definitely a weaker point in the musical, however it’s not actively harmful to the story at large
plain jane fat ass is better than love, dad from a narrative perspective, but i just personally enjoy love dad more despite that
father flynn’s sexuality is irrelevant to the canon story
peter may be the protagonist, but jason is the main character
feel free to ask me to elaborate on any of these opinions. i purposefully didn’t add much explanation cause i wanted to keep if brief, but i’d love to talk about it. i have a lot of love for this musical and i’ve spent a lot of time thinking about it lmao
hey just wondering does anyone possibly have a google drive of bare with the LA cast since they got taken off youtube??
ik wrong shakespeare but Matt is so Laertes
