I like your origin for waffles the best! I feel like a lot of people have Hunter carve her which makes sense but I think Hunter bonding with her after she’s lived a hard life is the best!

It’s like a reverse of Flapjack and Hunter with Hunter being the one to find her in a way. Also her being mean and a lil dumb to Flapjack’s wisdom and sweetness is the best. She definitely a lil shit and bullies the other palismen. She pecks and bites everyone but Hunter. She calls them stupid for their thoughts of self hatred. She’s sooooo ughshgsgs

I feel like having Waffles be the inverse of Flapjack is narratively cathartic. I like the idea of Bailey internalizing the new, kinder things she learns about the world and teaching them to her grumpy palisman. It’s healing for her. It’s almost like she’s teaching her own inner child that she’s safe/loved/good/etc too.

So yeah, where Flapjack provided more of a mature, almost mentoring relationship to Bailey, Waffles looks to Bailey for guidance most of the time because she’s just a baby. In essence, you’re so right, Flapjack found Hunter, and Bailey found Waffles.

They’re both of a journey of self-discovery, though, so they are there for each other in that regard to debrief their thoughts/emotions on everything.

And Waffles finds herself loving Bailey so much despite acting like she doesn’t; it pisses her off whenever Bailey’s negative about herself, because why can’t Bailey see what she sees? So Waffles always tries to shut that down.

Only Waffles can be mean to Bailey. That’s her job and she’s very good at it /j She always makes sure to send feelings of love and concern through their bond, though, so Bailey knows she’s either just doing it for the bit, or that she’s worried about Bailey, depending on the context.

Waffles is very territorial of Bailey and it takes a while for her to warm up to Bailey’s friends. Waffles gets there eventually, and even finds herself siding with Bailey’s friends on situations where Bailey’s self-sabotaging. It drives Bailey insane, like, “Aren’t you supposed to be on my side? 😐” and Waffles is like “Not when you’re being stupid,” lol

Anyway, I just love them, and I’m so glad you do too! Thanks for sending this ask, it made me happy!
