BREAKING NEWS: Nintendo has released Balloon Kid and Yoshi onto Game Boy Nintendo Switch Online!
There is a cool easter egg of sorts hiding in the newer WarioWare games. Lulu, the little girl who's something of an antagonist for Wario, is a reference to Alice, a forgotten Nintendo heroine who was the main character of the 1990 Game Boy title Balloon Kid, which was itself a sorta sequel to Balloon Fight.
Alice is notable because back in the day, Nintendo had a weird habit of disguising its female protagonists so that it wasn't always clear that you were playing a female character. Alice, however, was not just girly — she was a little girl. And while she didn't even merit a cameo in Smash Bros., she does get to live on in Lulu, who is frequently given balloons as a motif and who even moves around the screen like Alice in WarioWare: Get It Together.
