“Will You Marry Me, Again?” by Nathan Wade Carter October 3rd, 2009
“…you can talk to young people today… and find out that they believe nothing, want nothing, expect nothing, dream nothing, desire nothing… they hope nothing…. It’s a fair question to ask whether a society that produces this reaction in its young is worth its existence at all.”

GUEST POST // Sincere Pretense by Kevin L. McDaniel
Meeting where “Your insight is imperative,” but participation is optional. “Let’s catch up soon,” shared by people passing in echoing hallways. “Love, love, love what you did there,” praising mediocre work. “Your email must have found its way to the abyss of my inbox,” a common tale. “No offense but…” often prefaces unsolicited perspectives. “Take your time, there’s absolutely no hurry,” with…

... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Pandemic, invasions and wars, mass shootings, increasing escalation of violence, coups, failed states, energy crisis, arms race on the run, whatever, these are very difficult times for everyone, and the big and well-known brands they must expand, open up to new markets and make new proposals to a public increasingly eager for innovations. I suppose that the world of fashion does not escape this harsh reality and for this reason, United Colors of Benetton decided to reinvent itself, and now explores the valued kitchen market, and as a grain of sand for these humble people who work in the world of trends, I bought a couple of pans, Benetton, to be in the kitchen with the most recent, the most chic, when I go to fry an egg or pretend to cook a chicken fillet on the grill, when I really use this innovation Italian, "Made in China". ... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #banalidades #banalities #moda #fashion #benetton #unitedcolorsofbenetton #sartenes #pans #fryingpans #enlacocina #atkitchen #encasa #athome #nibaldop #barcelona #cataluña #catalunya #españa #spain (en Barcelona, Spain) https://www.instagram.com/p/CgRyiUzKRmd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

i was raised on 简体中文/simplified chinese so i don’t know traditional chinese as well as i could, and also recognise there’s a fraught history behind simplification, but sometimes i look at the traditional counterparts to everyday characters and just go... you mean at one point everyone had to deal with writing this?
take 發 (traditional) and 发 (simplified):
[image 1: the character 發
image 2: the character 发]
the difference isn’t that huge now in these images, but 发 is far quicker to write by simple virtue of having fewer strokes and it’s also easier to read at a glance (for me) on my computer and screen. i get hoodwinked every time i see 發 into thinking ‘oh? is that a new word?’ because it looks mega complex and then no, i realise it’s just one of the most common words everyone here uses in their daily life, fml
Banalidades. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ... Banalities. Reading the newspaper El País, in its edition last Saturday the 3rd of this month and year, an interesting article on bilingualism in education caught my attention. No, I will not talk about mother language, second or foreign, because what really attracted my attention, after the headline, was the photograph that accompanied the aforementioned report. In it we see the management staff of a renowned school in Castellón (Navarra) placidly wearing their summer clothes, typical of these sunny and hot days. In my imaginary universe there would be no room for this possibility, even if this individual and his colleagues wanted it, because in Venezuela that is, or was, practically unthinkable, since it did not agree with the image and ethics of the teacher, despite the Saharan temperatures of Zulia, and the heavy sweat when the air conditioning in the car died, or was simply insufficient. You filthy envy mine! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ... #banalidades #banalities #educacion #education #profesor #professor #docente #maestro #teacher #vestuario #costume #ropa #clothing #indumentaria #apparel #verano #summer #noticia #news #periodico #newspaper #elpais #españa #spain (en Barcelona, Spain) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ_ihJHF5Km/?utm_medium=tumblr
