it's so important to me that troy and Harris have chill vanilla sex, like I just don't think they're kinky like hollanov. in the books it's all about them having fun, about troy getting to relax and Harris getting to adore him, I want that sweetness for them these apple-and-dog boys are sweetie4sweetie so romantic it's infuriating literally disgustingly sweet. no-one here is worldly like kip or angsty like hollanov they have NO idea what's going on with cap and his husband they're having cute loving sex with a giraffe plushie underneath them

Shane & Troy: "The Boring Besties"

I have no idea what Shane and Troy's interactions look like in the books, if there are any, but any fanfics that have mentioned their friendship make it seem like there is so much potential for them to be absolute besties, so this is just how I imagine them together

Ilya would be obsessed with Shane and Troy becoming friends. He would feel so validated in being right about their friendship making sense. He would happily sit with Harris and chat about their adorable, boring partners.

Shane and Troy start running together in the mornings, sharing their Strava stats and getting genuinely excited about finding new routes. They have shared Pinterest boards for meal prep recipes, and they walk their own route at the Ottawa farmer's market while Ilya and Harris go with Yuna and David.

Shane gets Troy to start reading books, forming a mini book club with a shared reading tracker app. Troy gets Shane to start listening to music by giving him song recommendations and explaining why he thinks Shane may like the artist.

When they can be convinced to participate, Shane and Troy are karaoke partners. They are also Centaurs' game night partners since Shane and Ilya are banned from playing together. Shane likes to run new play ideas with Troy and get his opinions on power play options.

Shane sticks with Troy during Irina Foundation galas as Ilya and Yuna are usually working the room together. Troy always asks to be in Shane's group during Centaurs' community work, feeling more comfortable at the Children's Hospital visits and speaking engagements with Shane as his buffer.

Ilya loves that Shane has a trusted friend who understands the complexity of being a gay hockey player surrounded by high expectations and judgmental eyes. He sees the way Troy gets Shane to open up more, naturally unlocking the more relaxed side of his husband, who makes stupid jokes and shares his strong opinions.

Harris could cry seeing Troy laughing so freely with Shane, who genuinely enjoys Troy's dry humor and sometimes snarky attitude. He appreciates Shane's directness, which keeps Troy from spiraling about his social choices given his past. Troy always comes home with a smile after hanging out with Shane, even if it was a simple run around the neighborhood.

Everyone they know teases them about being the "Boring Besties", but Ilya and Harris both know how important their friendship is to each other.
