Prompt 11 - Remark
@jegulus-microfic March 11, Word count 272
Previous part First part
Regulus had made a point of avoiding his brother for the last few days. He’d done a lot over the years to Sirius to upset him, but he’d never seen him look so hurt, so vulnerable.
It was the day before the full moon, and luckily, he had Herbology that afternoon. James had lent him the invisibility cloak, and it made sneaking into greenhouse three far too easy. In fact, it took all the fun out of it. He slipped into Greenhouse Five without even being late with a handful of mandrake leaves in his pocket.
“You coming back to the dorm tonight, or are you staying with lover boy again?” Barty asked as they re-potted Venomous Tentacula seedlings.
“That is absolutely none of your business,” Regulus drawled. He picked up his tray and moved it to the side where the other full trays were being kept.
“Has it got something to do with these?” Barty asked, holding up the mandrake leaves Regulus had stolen earlier. Regulus rushed forward and snatched them out of Barty’s hand.
“Idiot, don’t wave those around!” He hissed, eyes darting around the greenhouse, checking that no one else had seen the mandrake leaves. He’d been lucky no one was paying attention to them.
“So what are you doing with so many?” Barty asked, eyes narrowing as he stared at Regulus’s pocket. “It’ll be a powerful potion with that many in it,”
“I only need one,” Regulus knew the second the remark had passed his lips that he’d fucked up. Barty’s eyes snapped up, a knowing light shining through, and Regulus knew that Barty had figured it out.
