On This Day in History October 10, 1957: The Milwaukee Braves defeat the defending World Champion New York Yankees 5-0 in Game 7 of the World Series. In doing so, the Braves became the first team to win a World Series since relocating. The Braves played in Boston from 1871 until they moved to Milwaukee in time for the 1953 season.
This would be the Braves first World Series title since 1914 and it would be the only time a professional Baseball team from Milwaukee would win the World Series. The Brewers would lose to the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1982 World Series 4 games to 3. The Braves would return to the World Series the next season losing to the New York Yankees in seven games. The Braves would move to Atlanta after 13-winning seasons in Milwaukee.
The saga of the 1957 Milwaukee Braves is immortalized in John Kilma’s book Bushville Wins!: The Wild Saga of the 1957 Milwaukee Braves and the Screwballs, Sluggers, and Beer Swiggers Who Canned the New York Yankees and Changed Baseball.
