im gonna keep talking about moshe and the prince of egypt now.
one thing i dont love about the movie (the west vers is better also but not my point) (and the west end vers does this too) is the erasure of batya's role in the story.
now i understand they changed a lot of things to make it more adaptable for a movie format and changing moshe from pharaoh's grandson to son is one of those things and im not even really mad at that.
i get that keeping her conversion to judaism would add extra detail that wouldn't derail the movie, per se, but certainly add extra details that would clog up the flow of the plot and so renaming her (since yk, her name was given to her by HaShem when she pulled moshe out of the river to signify her conversion by calling her "batya" (bat- daughter, ya- ywh)) from "batya" to "tuya" makes sense.
HOWEVER, i don't get why they have miriam pick moshe's name instead of batya/tuya. the fact that it BATYA who picks out the name we know him by and the name HaShem calls him--- as opposed to HaShem calling him "Yered" (what miriam calls him), "Yekutiel" (what yocheved calls him), "Chever" (what amram calls him), "Shemaiah ben Netanel" (what am yisrael called him), or literally any of his other name--- MEANS something. it means that Moshe is his Hebrew name and the hebrew name ties to the soul. so the fact it was BATYA who not only picked out A hebrew name despite not yet being jewish herself and HIS hebrew name shows not only her closeness to judaism and HaShem (which again, fine whatever that they cut that) but ALSO her closeness to Moshe himself as her mother.
and ESPECIALLY in the west end vers where they flesh out the characters and their relationships INCLUDING THIS ONE, i don't understand why they would change it to miriam. they could've just as easily had batya/tuya name moses in front of miriam and have her know his name that way.
