I like to think I have good grasp on romance, so I wanted to share the lead in to my space yuri idea:
Picture this: You're a(n alien) princess, the youngest of four sisters. Compared to them, you're rather... unimpressive. Not a natural leader, nor a skilled fighter, all you're really good at is studying.
One day, a pair of aliens (your more focused on the human) come to your planet. She's a bit far from home, and your ancestors are rumored to have made contact with her planet millennia ago. You offer to help, as no one knows the archives as well as you do (much to your sister's constant teasing).
After a few hours, you find nothing. All records of the meeting were lost to time. As sad as that is, your guest decides to make the best of it and explore your planet, with you as her guide (mostly because the way to your home was... unpleasant, to say the least). You both have a wonderful time, especially as she is the first person to take an active interest in your ramblings.
The same day, however, a member of the royal court attempts a coup. While the rest of your family can take care of themselves, you cannot. In spite of the situation, and her own lack of combat experience, the human does everything she can to keep you safe. When offered anything she desires as a reward, all she wants is to be your friend, as she "likes your vibes", and "you're the first person my age I've talked to in months."
Obviously, you'd be a bit fascinated/obsessed with her, right?
