I was rewatching Monster High: 13 Wishes, because i was feeling nostalgic about the Gen1 Monster High movies. And i know a lot of people have already talked about how crazy it is that Lagoona's whole subplot in this movies is her wanting to be liked by Gil's parents. And when Gigi Grant makes that wish come true, instead of making Gil's parents, you know, not racist against Salt Water Monsters, the spell turns Lagoona into a Fresh Water Mosnter instead. And i never see people talking about how it brainwashed the hell out of her too??? It didn't only changed her species, it changed her whole personality.
The species change was bad in it's own, but if that was the only thing the spell changed about her and left her personality intact, i could see it as comentary on how some people are so blinded by their own prejudices against certain groups of people, that it makes then deslike poeple that, otherwise, they would love or befriend. But no, they give my girl a lobotomy and turned her into a clingy pick me 😭.
She didn't want to eat until she had finished cutting Gils food for him (like his mom does), wanted to spend all her free time with him, stoped caring about her grades, she even quite the swimming team. She straight up said that she didn't care about anything other than being with Gil, worst of all, she even insulted her own parents in one scene because they are Salt Water Monsters.
Is like the spell turned her into his parents idea on how Gils "perfect girlfriend" should be, acording to their own standars. And i don't like what that implies based on Lagoonas behavior while she was transformed.
(her outfit was pretty cute thought, i loved her fish-like ponytail as a kid).
