It has been a while but have had this stored for a while because the animators were on point with this episode.

Like, look at his face when he looked at the rocks that almost fell on her. I know this is me talking but like that looks like a "Like hell I am going to let them hurt her!" look if I ever saw one. And how protective his is for her.

Might need to do a whole breakdown because this whole scene is perfectly animated for these two.

Prompt 30: Being protective; eretcup/hicret

Rather belated, but here ya go!

The situation had definitely escalated when the swords came out. It had been voices speaking harshly at each other, coming to rise as one tried to outdo the other. But once they realized Eret wouldn’t be backing down, there was a loud scrape as they drew their weapons. 

“Your father would have never let a foreigner like him stay!” Spitelout snarled. 

“He used to work for Drago, he could still be trying to tear us apart from the root!” Ack shouted. 

“I’ve said this before, but he’s gone. And Eret really isn’t on his side anymore,”

He thought of the brand Eret had revealed, but his reputation was already on shaky ground, Hiccup knew the fact wouldn’t work in his favor.

“Just how much is he of an inconvenience to you?” Hiccup narrowed his gaze.

He could see Eret shoot him a pleading look, a vague shake of the head. He’d drawn his blade, Hiccup assured it would only be used in self-defense. Hiccup wouldn’t pull out his weapon, but he stood between Eret and the men who’d ganged up on him.

“He’s given us no reason to trust him.”

“Really? Then we seem to have different recollections, because I seem to remember him aiding us in the fight against Drago, and helping us rebuild. He’s not a threat, and you need to stop acting like he is.”

“How your father would look at you for-”

“He would respect the decision I’ve made. Do not act like you know him better than I do.”

“You would really trust someone who was part of an army that nearly destroyed our village?”

“His people were attacked just as we were. He didn’t join Drago of his own volition, and if it weren’t for his alliance with us, we would’ve been put under Drago’s control too.” 

He could see that the men were running out of excuses, when the plain fact was that they weren’t appreciative of him.

“But he, he-”

“He’s a Berkian now, and as chief he has my permission to stay. Which is all he needs. If you’re going to continue to act against my decision, I may consider a temporary expulsion of those who cause an uproar.” Hiccup was surprised at how firm he managed to make his tone.

Vaguely reminding him of his dad. Spitelout glanced uneasily at the men near him. He mumbled something grumpily, but the blades were stowed into their sheathes. They drew away and headed for a barrel of mead. Hiccup turned to face Eret, whose weapon had dipped in his hand, gaze set on the departed men.

“Are you okay?” Hiccup asked with a tilt of his head. 

“I, this is becoming taxing. Them not wanting me here.” He straightened out of a defensive pose.

Hiccup tried to offer a smile. 

“That’ll stave them for a while.”

“And if they continue saying I should be removed from Berk?”

“I’ll have to follow through on my word.” 

Eret’s weapon was slid into its sheathe with a click. He came forward, placing a hand on Hiccup’s shoulder.

“You know, I could’ve handled it myself.”

Hiccup wryly chuckled. “It reached the point where the weapons would do the talking. I didn’t want blood shed in the Great Hall. Though I bet you would’ve won.”

Eret suddenly wrapped his arms around Hiccup in an embrace.

“Thank you.” He heard him say behind his ear. “I appreciate what you did.”

Hiccup smiled, internally smirking at how Eret had bent down to hug him. He wound his arms around Eret’s back returning the gesture.

“You’ve become someone close to me. I’d never want you to have to leave.”

“I wouldn’t want to either.”
