Nite-nite Nirvana: Dave Grohl Reads “Octopus’s Garden”
- BBC kids’ show smells like toddler spirit
When foos must be fought, Dave Grohl’s your dude.
But he puts out the welcome mat for Mr. Sandman.
For “after a busy day of rocking out,” Grohl - or Dave as he introduces himself on the BBC’s “CBeebies Bedtime Stories” - likes to imagine himself flying through space, running with dinosaurs or swimming beneath the sea.
“I love this story because it was written by someone who plays the drums, just like me,” flannel-clad (natch) Dave says by way of introduction.
“It’s called ‘Octopus’s Garden’ and it’s written by my hero, Ringo Starr.”
As Ben Cort’s illustrations float by, a mellow, cross-legged Dave reads the lyrics as poetry, careful not to mimic the song’s melody and awkwardly squeezing in the backgrounds for the joy of every girl and boy.
It’s … Nirvana.
And it smells like toddler spirit.
